I couldn't find this before but I just tracked it down and will leave it here :p |
In 1990 Brazil went out in the round of 16, so if we're using progress as a barometer of quality then this Brazil side was still clearly not the worst side in the past 20 years. It's also fairly obviously better than the sluggish and boring side of 2006 that got no further.
I'll say again that I'm surprised they lost to the Dutch, especially after being clearly the best side for 45 minutes. |

It reminds me of a time at university when we went out 7 days a week. The first evening afterwards there was an inexplicable feeling of utter boredom, like something important was missing. I get that feeling now. I've been so used to football taking up a large part of my day that when it's temporarily gone I've forgotten how to fill my time with other things. |

This is the Brazilian version of farting under the blanket and having 190 million people sniff it. We call it "the Dutch Over".

No really. I don't like the arrogance in Bavaria and like many think they are better than the rest and that they almost always need a special treatment. It kinda pisses me off. |
Well, think about it - they're protecting the rest of you from some of those crazy Austrians! Remember what happened the last time an Austrian crossed the border and tried to convince everyone he was German? Hell if I were them, I'd want special treatment too!

A-ha! I knew at least one of you had to exist! Now, where's the rest of you non-Bavarians? |

Not only that, we have also more breweries in Bavaria than the entire rest of Germany, making the place instantly awesome. And the only school system that ensures that people are remotely qualified (yes, I'm looking at you Hamburg, Bremen and Berlin!). And, on topic, who are the players chiefly responsible for the German success at the WC? Lahm, Schweinsteiger, Klose and Müller. Where do they play? Exactly!
Arrogance is only a bad thing when it's unjustified! :toothless
That being said, I'm not a genuine Bavarian myself. :( |

Don't play dumb, you know I didn't use the phrase "...of the past 20 years" randomly. I know the disaster that was the 90' squad and that's exactly why I said "the worst team of the past 20 years", meaning that Brazil hadn't shown up with such a terrible squad since the 90' Cup. I don't know why you have such a hard time admitting when you are mistaken. |

Or they do it Guatemalan style, which is pretty much all of the above plus emptying their bladder on a Ziploc bag and then toss it into the opposing team's supporters. True story. |
That happened to Landon Donovan when the US played Mexico in the CONCACAF qualifiers. Landon ended up with swine flu, true story. |

Because saying "They got knocked out in the quarters, they must be the worst team since 1990" is incredibly simplistic. I suppose Uruguay are better than Brazil, or the Turkey or South Korea sides of 2002 are better than Brazil?
If they'd been utterly played off the park by the Dutch as Argentina were against Germany your statement might have credence, but given it was a narrow win courtesy of a freak own goal and a red card after Brazil had obviously dominated the first half... This Brazil team is still obviously better than the 2006 team managed by Parreira, and I noticed you've conveniently overlooked that point to focus on the 1990 team. Don't scrabble too hard for a "I told you so moment", son. |
