Sure, next time they can play with a balloon and as they are professionals that shouldn't give any problems. Playing with a ball which is to heavy sucks, and with one which is too light also. Don't see why there is a need for changing balls all the time expect for ing commerce.
I wouldn't be surprised that some idiot within FIFA thinks, let's use a new ball, it will improve the game a lot. Yeah, as we have seen. |
The Germans seemed to do pretty well with it. Then again, Adidas is a German company and the Bundesliga has been playing with it for a while. |

I'm not sure the Bundesliga played with the same ball, did they? Edit: yes they did. Also in other tournaments and leagues. What even makes it more stupid I think.
Anyway for the Dutch Van Bommel and Robben shouldn't have had problems with it, but I do remember Robben running in ass off for nothing. At one time he even stopped running as he knew it was useless. Maybe also the combination with the field made it worse as in Germany the fields probably are a lot better. Through air it should be the same or the altitude should have influence.
IMO Overall it was disappointing with Germany as only surprisingly nice playing team. |

It just comes down to physics and changing your style of play to account for the fact that the ball can speed through the air at a much higher pace than you are used to and making the ball do more of the work in this regard. Also, because it goes through the air faster, small changes in turbulence and direction are exaggerated. |

That means less time for players to anticipate on long shots, which will result in less long shots to wing players and strikers and more shots at the goal from outside 16 meter. Both IMO don't have a positive contribution to the game.
Oh, and even more if it's windy. |

I disagree. It just means you have to be more precise in your use of power. Don't kick it so hard, and then it doesn't go so fast. |

Good point. A lot of the quality free kicks for goal were struck without excessive power, and a focus on spin and placement.
I thought the goofy ball was good. It added another element of skill to the game. There were some great full-speed strikes that went in, and tons that were launched into the stands. It just makes the ones that scored that much better in a way since the player was able to display that extra bit of control (with power) on the run |

My personal opinion is that I think there is an optimum somewhere for what is the best ball looking from many viewpoints, which will be an average of many. There will always be players who prefer lighter or heavier balls. I also think there is a relation between preciseness and power used, but then we go to the scientific approach.
There will be people who prefer the one above the other, so we don't need to have the same opinion. |

Yeah it is a wonderful aspect. It may be harder to get to know the ball, but that is all part of keeping sharp skills and continuing to improve.

To each their own. I agree it ultimately is preference. |
