I was trying to figure it out - what is the earliest point that Argentina and England could play in this cup? |
they could meet in the quarterfinals - they'd need to finish 2nd and 1st in their groups and then both win their round of 16 matches. |

It was the bit about "extreme armchain manager punditry" that really struck a nerve wasn't it? :p
Face it. Switzerland doesn't give a about football, only have a population of 7/8 million (which is actually decreasing), and I seriously doubt that anyone reading this thread who isn't a serious football fan or an armchair pundit/manager had heard of 90% of the swiss squad as opposed to football giants spain, whose country lives and breathes football, has a population more than ten times the size (and therefore a larger pool of players to draw from) and virtually every single player in that team is a known superstar to football fans or even a mainstream household name and or international tabloid fodder. |
Everyone knows that, you dolt. The issue we're taking is with your utterly spurious claim that the Swiss side are all amateurs, arrogantly backed up by your supposed inside knowledge of Swiss football. |

Just watched the game. Good win by mexico. Great energy from the crowd. They were louder and the vuvuzelas weren't as annoying.
I was surprised to see Oscar Perez and Franco start this game. I want to see Michel on the goal and J. Hernandez in the next match against Uruguay. |

My underdog pick South Korea failed me against Argentina...
But as expected, against better teams they would fall apart. Their defense had a change in philosophy and style since the Greece game, far less pressure on the ball handler and less attempts at interceptions. They just flat out played differently on defense. Watching the first goal, it was like , did you just budge the ball into your own goal? Iguaine was in the right places at the right times, thanks to Messi. I think South Korea will squeeze through to the Top 16 with a win over Nigeria.
Argentina comes off as a solid team, better than Italy and as good or better than Brazil so far.
Overall, I have to say the quality of players arent as good as the previous two World Cups. In the starting lineups, I wonder if there are more players with less caps per player than the previous world cups. |
