Are you familiar with this saying?
"Some people believe football is a matter of life and death... I can assure you it is much, much more important than that." Bill Shankly
These people will have a lot of problems.. For one - they'll be dead often.. |

Well it's 2pm and I just woke up. Went to bed at 8am after being out all night at the Fifa Live Site in Sydney in 6 degree weather.
I'm really disappointed. I don't understand why Pim chose to play that formation with those players. If you're going to play a small, quick team for a counter attack and maybe some possession football, why then would you start playing high balls against a team of giants like Germany? Cahill is far too small to play that lone man up front.
Defence was far too slow. Chipperfield and Moore need to go. They carved us up on the runs and stupid offside trap multiple times. People need to study how German players overlap and run through onto the through ball because they really are fantastic at it.
As for the red card, absolutely terrible decision. A yellow yes, but a red there is an absolutely horrendous call. Australia needs to appeal to get Cahill back for the Ghana match.
If Australia played its proper team and formation, then Germany would not be 4 goals better. For this last game however, they probably were. |

What do the Greeks and FIFA's referees have in common? They're both on Germany's payroll.
Cahill's red card: bull. Australia not being awarded a penalty when Germany handballed in the box: bull. Australia not being awarded when German players twice kicked the ball off the pitch in anger: bull. Of course, Germany were the better team, but not four goals better. |
The red card was not that harsh actually. It was from behind. That ref is known for applying the rules correctly. As for the handball, it was unintentional. Grow a pair.
I don't know what you and woscar are talking about. I like this ref. He has the balls of calling it like it is and doesn't care if that makes him controversial. What other refs have given yellow cards for diving in this WC?
Germany was playing great football. Australia is lucky it wasn't 6-0. |

Absolutely not. That red card was unwarranted. Yellow, sure. A straight red for what happened there is not the right call. |

According to a Brazilian referee, he had to give a red card because it could potentially break the leg of the German player. |

That's not what I read earlier today:
| quote: | | When asked by reporters why he gave Tim Cahill a red card, Marco Rodriguez said, "well, I had to, really. Timmy still listens to Armin van Buuren's State of Trance, and I'm a househead 'til I die. Do you know how ridiculous trance would sound with vuvuzelas in the background?" |

Blaming Australia's loss on the referee: Bull.
Germany was immensely superior in every aspect today, they could have scored 4 or more times in the first half, way before the referee started with the big ups.
That being said, Marco Rodriguez is one of the worst referees active today, even by Mexican standards. Why FIFA still calls on this cunt to referee on big tournaments is beyond me. |
Re-read my post. I didn't blame our loss on refereeing. We would have lost even with better decisions.

watched the Argentina vs Nigeria game
Was impressed by Argentina in the same way I was impressed by South Korea. But i'd have to say South Korea was a bit more focused and controlling of their game and the ball than Argentina. But then again Greece is probably a weaker team than Nigeria, which is also a very weak and what seems to be poorly coached team. Nigeria seems to have not understood the concept of defense, or any idea about trying to take the ball from Argentinas forwards only 35 feet out from the goal, they were waiting for mistakes more than trying to create problems for Argentina's offense, and for good reason Messi has what 5 or 6 shots this game and 4 of them on goal? One bright point for Nigeria was their goalie, he did well at saving goals many times. Towards the last third of the game, Argentina seemed to get lax in their interest to press on both offense and defense, an interesting drop in energy given the amount of time still available. It wasnt a great game, but still had its moments.
And ESPN finally has got it right, their pre and post game commentating has improved dramatically from last World Cup. Martinez is simply brilliant in his articulation, convictions, and analysis, Lamas is not bad either at his commentating. |
