The list goes on and on...They've been putting a lot of time, money, and effort into their young athletes and it's paying off big. |
Perhaps they should have put that money into the job market?
Then again, if Germany had to bail out Spain's economy because Spain had spent all their money on beating Germany, the irony would just be too delicious. |

That game was the highest watched soccer game in US history with 24.3million viewers from the US. The next highest is the USA - Ghana match with 19.4million, and in third is Brazil - Italy 1994 with 18.1million.
I'm still never going to watch soccer though until the next world cup. I don't think most Americans are. It's just a ing boring sport to watch. Even while I was at one of the Fifa Fan Fest giant screen things with hundreds or people watching the game, I still thought it was boring. The only thing I like about it the sense of nationality and spirit. No US sport has the same spirit, where the fans have team songs and all party together to celebrate with their team. I just like the whole idea of Country vs Country. |

Football will never be as boring as baseball, or gridiron. |

I don't know where to begin, really. Spain has always been a very offensive team, one that always goes for the win. |
That's not a winning mentality, that's an attacking mentality. The current Spain team do have a winning mentality, but that's what previous Spain sides have lacked. Germany have always had a winning mentality. A winning mentality is all about handling pressure and having an insatiable drive to succeed that transcends ability. |

Not even trying to be cruel her, but that's why England always falls flat when they get close to winning any team sport competition: ingrained losing mentality. |

Then why did we just beat Australia in the cricket world cup? Why does the rugby team continue to do well? Why do English club sides do well in European competitions?
We fall flat in the World Cup because this post-colonial nation insists on making it a proxy for the days when we were the best in the world at everything, hence why there is a constant obsession with equating the World Cup with World War 2. No coincidence that the Germans are always the ones that beat us. There is the English attitude that we should do better because we won the World Cup in the past, and we invented the sport in the past, and subconsciously because we used to defeat other nations in a more literal sense in the past. The World Cup is this pathetic nation's only way to be top of the world again, but the weight of expectation will always prevent it happening. The eleven poor bastards on the pitch don't just have sporting history on their shoulders, they have national history. |

Today I was watching Fox and they were talking about all those big moments in MLB All-Star History. I'm like "WTF is this a joke?!" The MLB All Star game is the biggest circle jerk ever. |

I didn't literally mean always. Of course, there are times when you simply have a really good team, or a star player capable of lifting morale (such Johnny Wilkinson), or when you steal half your players from South Africa.
The fact remains, you guys have hearts like split peas. When the chips are down, England barely ever seems to get back. Much less than other teams, anyway.

So, a summary of this post is: "we couldn't win the world cup because of expectation and pressure".
From your earlier post: "A winning mentality is all about handling pressure and having an insatiable drive to succeed that transcends ability."
So, basically, you're saying England couldn't win the world cup because they didn't have a winning mentality. They couldn't handle the pressure of history. |

If you understood baseball its not boring, its pacing is slower but to make up for it there is lot of strategy going on from a manager stand point that makes soccer look like a sport for simpletons. Every sport has their strengths and weaknesses. The biggest weaknesses for soccer is if teams want to play conservative there is nothing to prevent them from passing the ball around all day long. The constant flopping and the off sides is terrible. There are better way to handle penalties like hockey, put players in the box for a couple of minutes. |

I love how Baseball fans always say that. "Pfft you just don't understand it." They kind of remind me of Twilight fans like that.
I understand it perfectly. It's still boring. |
