I don't buy the Holland talk anymore. The played by far the most spectacular football in the last EC and yet completely collapsed against the Russians. It's a mental thing, I don't think they've overcome it yet. |
But that's the beautiful part of it all. They're a little bit older and more mature than that team, and no one is giving them a big head. But they're as talented as any squad - sporting players in the big four leagues and then some.
I think this is the perfect scenario for the Dutch to finally perform up to their potential. I could easily see them in the semis. |

Come on Chile!
Does anyone know if South Africa gets lots of earthquakes? otherwise we would be at terrible disadvantage. |

destroying? european? pfft. no, they're still nothing to me. and you will eat your words when the world cup is over.
they are nothing. you will see. specially this Higuain some talk about; he will do nothing. |
Higuain is argentinian you moron. :stongue:
Argentina has easily one of their greatest generations of players ever, squandered by the fact they have a retarded fat managing them, also squandered by the fact the team isn't very well balanced, way too many world class forwards, not enough midfield stars. Seriously... Messi, Aguero, Higuain, Milito, Tevez, Lavezzi, Lisandro, Saviola... good luck picking the team Maradona.
I think this one is between Brazil, Spain and England. Not completely ruling out Holland, Germany or France.
I'd love for us (Portugal) to make it against the odds, but quite frankly we are struggling and I think we'll have it tough to even break past the group stage. |

Spain will win the cup because they have the best players in the world collectively. England have Rooney, Argies have Messi but Spain have Torres & David Villa, then iniesta, xavi, xabi alonso, silva, mata and more. I really think they're gonna win it, plus I dont really want england to with terry, ferdinand and lampard in our team. they're all cocky bastards. |
no, ian. they will not win it. in the second round, if they make it, they will be facing brazil or portugal. brazil can end their hopes. portugal might not, but you still have the group e and f winners.
i know they have big names but you'll see. they will not win it. i'd be surprised and obviously pissed off if they make it to the final. |

Here's my expert pre-tournament punditry on every team, in order of likelihood to win. It will all be completely wrong, because injuries, luck of the draw and the inevitable World Cup upsets make it foolish to predict this far ahead of the event:
Brazil - All precedent favours them, and having watched them win the Copa America and Confederations Cup and top South American qualifying under Dunga I think they're brutally efficient, handle big-game pressure very well and have the kind of set-up that can beat passing teams like Spain or Argentina.
Spain - Difficult to see past them, they have quality and depth in every position and they bring it together on the pitch. However, I think Brazil can beat them and they have a history of choking on the biggest stage.
----
Germany - Never write off the Germans. Much weaker than in the past but they're ridiculously efficient at this level. I just don't want to draw them in the last 16, because they always knock England out.
England - I'll be happy with a semi-final. I think we can beat anyone aside from Spain or Brazil, injuries permitting, although I'm terrified of Germany.
----
Holland - They're capable of awesome football but have a pretty thin defence and the way they bottled it against Russia in 2008 makes me skeptical.
Ghana - Did very well in the ACN without some big names, and also over-achieved in 2006, so I think they could be a dark horse if Essien and co are fit, despite a tough old group.
Argentina - Maradona is an idiot and they no longer have any kind of fixed style or system, but a piss-easy group and the raw talent available means they should get to the quarter finals.
France - Domenech, if possible, is an even worse manager than Maradona, but again there's so much raw talent in this squad and the fact that this buffoon got them to the 2006 final means they should get to the quarter finals playing awful defensive football.
----
Ivory Coast - They've got a really, really tough group which is why I can't bet on them too highly, but Drogba is a ing monster and the Toure brothers, Kalou, Dindane... there's a lot of talent here, no mistake.
Italy - They're really bad at the moment. 4-3-3 does not work for them, and every time I see them Pirlo just hoofs Hollywood passes up to Luca Toni. Too many ageing players and even if Totti comes out of retirement and they switch to 4-4-2 I think they'll go out in the last sixteen.
Paraguay - If (and it's a big if) Cabanas recovers from a gunshot wound to the head in time, I think they'll get out the group alive. I liked what I saw of them in qualifying, and they've got firepower up front.
Mexico - Now Sven's buggered off they should show what a good side they are. It's a tough group, but they can get out of it.
USA - It's a very easy group for them, they usually show fighting spirit and they've got enough good players to get through.
Nigeria - I reckon they can get to the last sixteen, and on African soil they should be inspired.
Portugal - I know I've ranked three sides in the group of death here, but despite an inept manager they've got loads of talent and Ronaldo is the kind of player who can single-handedly drag a mediocre team through. If they get out of the group, which is not at all certain, they could actually do pretty well.
Cameroon - They should be better than Denmark with the number of Champion's League quality players they have.
----
Switzerland - Dunno, someone has to follow Spain out of this group.
Chile - And it could be Chile.
South Africa - Sorry guys, but being hosts probably won't be enough.
Denmark - For some reason I think I'll regret writing them off.
South Korea - I think Nigeria will edge them out.
Serbia - Tough bastards who won't go down without a fight.
Australia - Unlucky mates, I think your group is too hard.
Uruguay - They might make life difficult for others, but I don't think they've got the balls to qualify.
Slovakia - Might just edge out Paraguay, but I doubt it.
Slovenia - They're not abysmal by any means, but the US are surely better.
Honduras - A couple of Premiership quality players and a very easy group, but I still can't see it.
Algeria - Same conclusion as Slovenia, basically.
Japan - No chance, their form is rubbish and they have about three good players.
Greece - Short of a 2004-esque miracle they'll be lucky to earn a point.
New Zealand - Only there thanks to a ludicrously easy qualifying group.
North Korea - The Great Leader has already banned live match broadcasts and has prepared heavily edited highlight shows to favour his team. |

, thanks system J for actually posting something that made sense.
England caned everyone (best qualification in history) and now that cvnt beckham is finally out for good and not taking up one of the useful numbers, we actually have a chance of winning.
Argentina? good but just not up to it and maradonna is going to it up. You know it. He aint going to let the team run themselves which is exactly what would need to happen for them to win.
Brazil? never discount as they're still good but probably the worst team they've produced in decades.
Spain? LOL, good on paper but always choke hard at this level.
I've got a sneaky feeling the Germans are going to be in at least the quarter finals.
If England can't do it now they never will - the only thing that might truly them up is Rooney getting injured and the extreme heat - England can't play well in scorching heat. |

South Africa is in the southern hemisphere and June will actually be their winter. This will probably be the coldest World Cup in history, and the conditions will suit England just fine.
With that said, most top South American and African players ply their trade in Europe these days, so they should be used to cold weather as well. |
