is this bad karma for england from 1966 when they stole the world cup from the germans? Did anyone think about that?
although to be fair, england scored another goal towards the end of that extra time. So to discount that goal would be inconsequential i guess.
It was a goal. If any portion crosses the line it's a goal. Time to read the rule book.....
Now don't make us divide your country's borders again :p

Well, it's Jimmy Kimmel and he obviously didn't say that seriously: it was clearly just a hook for the joke that followed (about the US being the soccer champions and the rest of the world playing for the football title).
I reckon you must get to know American humour to understand some of their jokes. There was an uproar here in Brazil a while back regarding the election of Rio de Janeiro as the host city for the 2016 Olympic Games. Robin Willians cracked the following joke on David Letterman's show:
"Chicago sent Oprah and Michelle Obama, Rio sent 50 Strippers and a pound of blow. It wasn't really fair, you know?"
I totally understand that it was a joke, but look at how they 'joke'.. and listen to the crowd reaction any time a slightly patriotic phrase is uttered... The US stood no real chance. That's fine, but the fact is the US thinks they can win everything simply because they're the US, and warp everything to suit them...
I understand US humour: There's nothing complicated about it! They're not the british, they're tactless and silly, which is what's good about it, but i understood the joke, and still found the underlying attitude irritating, which is why i said i'm glad they were taken down...

But arent most of Rio strippers girls that used to be boys? One would really need a pound of blow to forget about that little detail. Unless Psy-T is on the committee that decides who wins , in that case kudos to Rio for doing the research.

maybe you should read the rule book.

England's third goal has remained controversial ever since the match. According to the Laws of the Game the definition of a goal is when "the whole of the ball passes over the goal line"
I think its widely excepted that it was actually not a goal.
nonetheless, as i have stated before. Its a moot point as they ended up scoring a 4th goal.

well to be fair he does have a point. if the score was 2 - 1 germany, i would say you have a case.. but cmon 4-1?
The second they don't allow the second goal from England the entire game changes. If the goal was allowed then England wouldn't have had to open up more and press the play, which lead to the Germans scoring. The entire strategy of the game changes when the score is 2-2. I still think Germany would have won but I can't believe you would be so dense to believe that the entire game from that point on wouldn't have been different.

Totally agree.

Still i would say if it ended off 2-1 instead of 4-1 there would be a stronger argument. Its tough luck for england, but i do believe that they would still have lost regardless.
If anything, the argentina mexico goal allowance put much more of a hinderance on that game then the england germany game. You could tell that mexico completely fell appart after that.
The english were already involved in a 2-0 blitzkreig from the beginning. A spurt of energy for 2 goals for england perhaps wouldn't have lasted the whole game. The dynamics and momentum definatley change. I'm not saying that they wouldn't, but to be fair, if your railing on 100% more goals, the point is somewhat moot.
Do you think if australia was given a 2 goal handicap they could have beaten germany?
doubt it.

the decision made no difference to how england were destined to play. it didn't prevent them from beating the germans. i dont see how anyone who watched the game can think the decision had any impact on the outcome of the match.

A bit harsh. But my points lead to that conclusion as well.

I agree the germans probably would have won anyhow but it wouldn't have been the first time that a team playing like beat a better team. Isn't that part of what makes soccer so great, any team stands a chance. The disallowed goal definitely hindered Englands game and caused them to play a completely different style then they would have at 2-2.
