(not saying Germany was better today, or deserving to win, they just choked big time). |
lol whatever guy. I've been following this team since the last World Cup, I've seen them go from a mediocre team that got knocked out (miserably) by France, to European powerhouse in just under a year. Aragones went in, made the defensive changes and they won the Euro Cup. Aragones retired and del Bosque took over and continued to dominate in all competitive play, friendly or otherwise.
They're going to win because they have the skill, the depth, and the heart to do it. They're decimating teams left and right and it's going to take a lot more than the two clutch players the Netherlands have in their midfield to pull a win. Spain is just a far better team than the Netherlands
By no means did Germany "choke" today, they just couldn't get possession back. Time and again they would get the ball away and Spain would get possession back and hold it, that's what they do, and in the off chance Germany was able to get through Puyol & Pique, Casillas was there to clean up.
Talking football with you people is absurd, there's like four people in here that actually know what the they're talking about :stongue: |

I havent seen any consistent team on this World cup ...none.
I bet if this spain or Holland were to play any past world cup edition they wouldnt even make it to the quarter finals . |

| People keep bringing up Spain's weakness by mentioning that the US beat them 2-0 in the Confederations Cup in 09, never mentioning the fact that that was Spain's first loss in 3 years. |

So true. :p
I don't know how it is down there in LA, but here (and on TA as well, lol) that this WC brought in a LOT of noobs. Hearing their comments after the matches is a mixture of hilariousness and rage. I heard a dude after the game, wearing a Germany jersey, say "Man, those Spaniards are a bunch of pussies...all they do is pass and pass and pass the ball around".

Now What a minute there , spain was beaten miserably against a team like Switzerland on their first match doesn't that ring a bell to you that they are not that unstoppable . |

They weren't beaten 'miserably'. Spain dominated that game from beginning to end and the Swiss had TWO opportunities to score a goal and they did so on one of them. Xabi Alonso hit the crossbar and Villa sent a couple of shots inches wide. It was a matter of bad luck for them and good luck for the Swiss, really.
You know who got beaten miserably? Argentina.
:p |

It was a miserable defeat because Spain didn't show against the Swiss???? and had a balloon filled with expectations on top of them . TWO opportunities doesnt make a team any better than France .
you know who wrote? " same , different World Cup..." after what game :o
Also , fair enough mate we went out through the wrong exit but we will be back and stronger :toocool: |

Wosc, you're on crack. Stop trying to repaint the past. Switzerland beat spain by controlling them from beginning to end then made a goal when it counted.
Germany vs Spain was boring as as they bot played crap and spain did well to take an opportunity. I mean christ, less then 8 shots in total all game? Gimme a break. I have no bias towards wither team but you're deluded if you think spain had control of the game for either team payed very well.
I just hope to god NL or Spain play to win or this will be test WC I've watched. |

I missed the game so I can't comment, but in any case...guess who's going to the ing final and who didn't make it out of the group.
Shut the hell up :p
And Rann, stop being a bitter betty because England didn't play to the country's expectations :p
Boring? Not ing likely, and Spain definitely had control of the game. Germany couldn't even get the ball out of their own half for more than 10 minutes. |

The problem, if you want to call it that, with Spain during the tournament is that they wanted Fernando Torres to get his skill/confidence/match fitness back. So they started him every game which resulted in a much different line up than they're used to. They usually never start Torres and use him as a sub, with Villa alone up front as the striker. With Torres starting they put Villa behind him or off to his side and let Torres up front as the main striker, that obviously wasn't working as he is not 100% recovered from TWO knee surgeries this year. Today was a different ball game, they needed to win this and had very little room to around. Villa started as lone striker up front with Torres as the sub and they shined, La Furia in full effect today.
I can see Torres starting again on Sunday against the Netherlands, and if he's unable to produce results after the first half + some time they'll sub him out for Llorente or maybe Pedro.
By the way, ing Pedro could have snapped Torres' goal drought today but he's a stupid . Fyi. |
lol pinning it all on torres being out of form . van persie has been ing shocking (also cause of a bad injury earlier in the year), and he's the netherland's only main striker! He's played every game for at least 80 minutes and they havn't lost a game, even though he's ed up every opportunity except one throughout the games now, and when van marwijk finally took him off they often scored or got close :haha:
point is, torres isn't the reason they were ordinary throughout the tournament. they were just ordinary as a team. Germany were a powerhouse throughout, not just beating teams, but thrashing some really good teams... Netherlands managed to do extremely well with essentially only midfielders scoring... one player out of form is not an excuse for a team playing crap
i definitely think they deserved to beat germany, they played pretty well, and germany choked hard, but i definitely don't think they deserve to win it all. |

Honestly, I am actually glad that England went out as they the team that was sent didn't belong there in the first place.
By your logic I should be glad that spain won because they beat Germany but I have no bias and watched the game from a neutral standpoint. It's like when you watch a match and don't care as to who wins just as long there's some good football...and there really wasn't apart from spains header. for a semi it was utter turd.
The german passing was far superior throughout most of the game but spain got the goal and had some good posession at times (certainly not not all). It was football and germany just fell apart after the goal and spain just kept the ball. |

I wasn't pinning it all on Torres being out of form, I was pinning it on the fact that it's an entirely new formation that Spain never plays. They don't ever play with Torres up front and all the midfielers feeding him shots. They play with Villa up front alone or possibly side by side with Torres (with Torres there to relieve pressure). The sole purpose of the opening few games was for Torres to get his confidence back, he wasn't able to make things happen in the first half so del Bosque took him off and they went back to ass kicking Spain. That's how they do.
Germany beating Australia, Argentina, and England by big margins was impressive given the fact that this was essentially a new German team. Argentina has a horrible defense and Germany was able to pick them apart easily, England has their own slew of problems that Germany was easily able to exploit, and Australia call themselves the Socceroos. But when they played a team that specialized in possession and has a rock solid defense, they really can't fight back. Xavi, Iniesta, Busqutes, and Alonso really just shut down Schweinsteiger and Ozil. They have nothing on them, and when you look at the Netherlands they don't have anyone that can compete either.
Anyway, this Germany is a new younger Germany and they'll get far moving forward. This will be really good for them, but this is Spain's year. |
