I'm sure you could think of some things about soccer that you would like to see changed that would make it more enjoyable for you. |
Sure, except I don't want it to throw the rulebook away and become NHL. |

Oh that. That's what stoppage time is for. Can you imagine the Serie A? Games would last longer than cricket with all the stopping to cry. |

You have to be thick headed to believe that the sport cannot be better and there are not changes that could be made to make the sport better. Every sport should be tinkered with at times to try and improve the sport. |

A few things I would change to make the game a little more interesting would be
1. Get rid of off-sides
2. Make the field shorter and narrower
3. Change the penalty system - no more yellow cards or red cards. You foul someone and you are down a man for "x" amount of time.
4. Bring in instant replay for diving and if you are caught diving you are removed for the remainder of the game.
5. Get rid of this continuous time with extra time. Have a stop clock and use it. |
I can assure you it is precisely people like you that FIFA is not after to "gain as fans".
Seriously, all of this is ridiculous and part of what makes football unique. Billions of people around the globe watch it and love it the way it is. It's always the Yanks and other twats that think their sport ruling system is the best that come up with bull like this. If you don't like it, don't ing watch it then. Simple as that.

Again with this bull. Football doesn't need more goals to be more interesting. Some of the best games I have ever seen have ended 0-0 with lots and lots of chances for both sides to score. Italy vs Germany in the 2006 WC Quarterfinals comes to mind. It was only during the last few minutes of the 2nd extra time that Italy scored and won the game. |

Well, I don't want to change the rules of NHL.

This is why it'll never pick up on North America. You guys just don't get it, not every sport needs to have hockey/NFL scorelines. It's a slow paced game that thrives on building tension, and works absolutely fine for 99% of the globe except for you folks with ADHD.
Admittedly this world cup started a tad too defensive, making for a poor show, but it's just the fashionable style of play right now, that comes and goes. The 1990 world cup on Italy was HORRIBLE, dreadfully defensive, yet the 1994 cup on the US and the 1998 cup on France were beautiful. They barely touched the rules from 1990 to 1994: banned backpasses to the keeper, changed points for victory from 2 to 3 and that was it. |

I'm exactly the fan that FIFA should want to gain...someone in North America who is willing to spend his entertainment dollar on something other than hockey or North American Football. I've never once suggested I wanted soccer to become like the NHL or any other North American sport...all I'm suggesting is that soccer will not get my entertainment dollar unless they make the sport more entertaining. Soccer is still not considered a major sport in North America and FIFA should be doing everything in their power to increase their share of the market here. The more friendly games they have here with top players will only help the game. There are die hard fans in North America but there are more casual fans here who are willing to give soccer a try but something needs to be done to get them to commit to soccer. |

Some of the greatest hockey games I've seen have ended 0-0 in regular time as well....so what's your point. |
