Deleted the other post because I misread. ;)

You're right, though. The ref from Mali should be happy he doesn't even live within striking distance of the US, because even people that don't follow the sport realize how much we got ed today. I do say the same for Germany, too, and I have no allegiance to them (aside from my heritage that most of my family would prefer to ignore, all things considered).

The US is not a top-tier soccer team, but we're gaining talent by the year. And when like today happens, it only impedes an increase in interest. Kids/school districts realize that it's not a path to success, because it's still not a top-tier sport, and it seems rigged internationally.

In no way do I advocate instant replay (what would happen to Italy's wondrous swan dives if that was instituted?), but a few more judges on the field wouldn't hurt. It'd take more pussies out of their game and reward teams that play.

I won't deny, I've taken dives/been injuried out only to return on the next sub opportunity, but it's only because it's allowed and effective at certain times. It's very Machiavellian, so I guess it makes sense that the Italians are consistently the worst offenders.

Germany vs Serbia.

Great game throughout. Even though the one Spanish ref has a vendetta against tackling. To be fair he was on point most of the time, a few times he was off. I dont think he affected the game as much as the commentators wanted to stress supression. Its clear how the game carried on no one really repressed themselves, as the same type of play continued. So far, Germany isnt as strong as the other great teams. They seem to have a confidence to them on offense, which is nice to watch, but they're often dribbling the ball into dead ends, turning the ball over while opportunities burn up. Serbia probably played the best game they could on both offense and defense. They got lucky off of Germany's strikers misplaced shots. The real screw up of this game has to be Germany's goalie just sitting around waiting for the Serbian to shoot off the rebound, he should have jumped forward at the ball and stopped any shot from going off. Enjoyed this one and the Chile vs Hondurus. Chile is pretty damn good, and their 21 yr old striker has some fire to him, a bit out of control but he should be one to watch, great player there.

Far too many unwarranted fouls in the Germany/Serbia game. 9 yellows is absurd in a game, as is the nearly 30 fouls called. 1 per 3 minutes, really?

What "other great teams"?

France? England? Spain? Brazil?

Really only Germany and the Argies have shown the ability to put away teams, every other "great team" is underperforming by some margin.

all about the netherlands tonight!!

COMEEEE ONNNNNNNN~~~!!!!

stand a good chance to win the cup if the reffing stands up more, and if the coach shifts the team around a bit more, instead of just keeping the same players on the field even when they're clearly stagnating...

or maybe i'm just having some wishful thinking :p

I've seen this said quite a few times, and I don't understand. Why would verifying referee calls from tape by a bad thing?

Aside from the fact that soccer is the only sport where the clock never stops? Look at a game like the Germany one today. Can you imagine that called posthumously? It'd have been 3+ hours long if everything were debated. Part of the sport is the endurance aspect, which IR would kill.

Just make a method to overturn idiotic calls. 3 refs, something...
