Next round will be quite entertaining, Netherlands v Brasil and Germany v Argentina in particular. Can't wait to see those.
i'm looking forward to these games too especially since i thought both of them could be the final game!!
I still think netherlands have a shot at taking down brazil: Their technique is almost flawless, it's not especially exciting to watch, but it gets the fkn job done :p
in the first 3 games they had something like 70-80% of ball possesions, and in last nights game slovakia only managed to make like 5 shots on goal...
I think it's also crucial that the dutch leave a lot of the ego behind, constantly saying in post-game interviews that they really played pretty bad and they're just happy they won, need to step up for the next game... and it's true, but if Van Persie stops ing up every time the ball goes near him, and robben gets properly back at the top of his game i reckon they can take brazil.
Their defense is solid, and their attack CAN be pretty fkn good.
Either way, I'm glad they're playing brazil now, i'd prefer them to go out now than to go out in the finals really...

So do I. My only fear is that the Netherlands may defeat us now and then fail to win the cup. That'd be irritating, to say the least. Unless, of course, they lose to Portugal. That'd be acceptable. Or perhaps Spain. Or, if a miracle happens, Japan.
But I'd hate to see Argentina, Germany, or even Brazil win the bloody cup once again =/

well they already beat japan easily... i think the only real problems are: Germany, Argentina, Brazil. Possibly spain or portugal, but i don't see them as as much of a chance as the latter 3, as they're one-trick ponies, and aren't really playing that great...
Netherlands have a good shot too i think, but 1: I'm biased, and 2: Netherlands have a tendency to choke... Always have one of the best teams in terms of players etc, but have always failed to convert that into the Cup :(
maybe this year though, i really think their attitude is a lot better than it used to be, with more of a focus on just winning, instead of just showing off, or going for flash over effectiveness... this has lef most commentators to say they're boring, but it's definitely working for them so far! :D
edit: Really though, after the next round i think the winner will become pretty clear, the winners of brazil v netherlands, and argentina v germany will go through to the finals i reckon, whichever teams manage it!

Just concluding what happened yesterday and not being nationalist or justified, FIFA has to use technology for the upcoming football events.
That would helps us all to not break our head on the "what would of happen if the right decision was made"
The game does not need technology.
What about goal judges? It was actually part of the game until the late 1800's when it was abandoned for financial reasons.
It sure would be a damn site less expensive than digital ball tracking technology and doesn't have the same dilemma as bringing in instant replay.
As for Rooney, System J is right - Fergie played him in to the ground this season and I reckon it was because he wasn't going to let it happen to him again (resources being taken away for the national side). He was pissed at the last Euro and world cups for the same reason.
Rooney was injured and worn out. Simple as that.

I agree the germans probably would have won anyhow but it wouldn't have been the first time that a team playing like beat a better team. Isn't that part of what makes soccer so great, any team stands a chance. The disallowed goal definitely hindered Englands game and caused them to play a completely different style then they would have at 2-2.
what that decision meant was we saw a second half where england were forced into making attempts (however feeble) to score. we got to see why they didn't deserve to be even on the scoreboard. sure it changed the complexion of the game, but as an england fan i would prefer them being forced to prove themselves and coming up short, than going out on penalties after fighting out a boring draw (i'd take a boring win tho!).

Why did the chicken cross the road? Well, according to fifa, because their crack team of officials never witnessed said incident, it didn't happen and they won't entertain cctv or anything that proves otherwise.

Why did the chicken cross the road? According to FIFA officials, the chicken did not actually cross the road as it was clearly in an illegal position as indicated by the referee and his assistants despite disputing claims. The same officials said they will not insert a microchip in the chicken in order to check whether or not it has crossed the road, as the referee should have the final say on the crossing of the tasty bird, as he, more than anyone else, likes the cock.
According to legions of fans "bird", and not "referee", is the word. "Papapa-uma-ma-mow. Papa-uma-ma-mow" said Kwame Lindosha, one of the South Africans who claim to have witnessed the fowl crossing a street last Thursday.
