Maybe if you only watch sports where ties don't exist and are surprised by it.

A tie can be very satisfying when a minnow team does it to a powerhouse, and as bitter as a defeat if it means that you're out of the competition. It just depends on the perspective and the circumstances. Frankly US still fits the minnow description and England is a powerhouse, so you lot should be quite happy with this result - particularly given how your next opponents are even more modest and you should beat them easily... with this 1 point gained today you've actually got yourselves a good chance of winning the group.

It also depends on how entertaining the game has been. England-USA was barely alright, but yesterday's South Africa-Mexico certainly was satisfying for a neutral viewer despite there being no winner. A ball to the post at injury time, now that was tense.

this could be why, i can't say for sure.

i do understand that the US came away with the better result today, but i wanted a win.

It was a hard game to watch, because it was obvious England was the better team and was getting a lot of scoring chances but the US held them off.

On the one hand we got lucky with Green's gift.
But on the other hand the Brits where lucky that we didn't win the game with that goal that rang off the post.

If I was in charge of soccer I'd pull 4 players from each side if there was a tie after regulation. It would open up the field and create more scoring chances. I remember the NHL modified the rules and officiating to allow skilled offensive player to shine and score. There must be ways to do the same in soccer so you don't have so many of these 0-0 or 1-1 games. Not only do I find on average low scoring games boring they also aren't a good indicator of who's the better team. All it takes is a bad bounce or lucky goal for a lesser team to beat or tie a better one.

brutal...

Enjoyed the game, was an interesting watch. I really thought we were going to get run over at several different points but we managed to hold, so kudos to the US team for that. England was definitively stronger.

I'm really looking forward to South Korea vs Argentina.

If, and only if, South Korea wins, this will give them the respect I believe they deserve since 2002. But, maybe I'm too much of an optimist.

Caught up on...

South Korea vs Greece.

South Korea was impressive, in their ability to control the whole game, defend and turn the ball over to their offense. Also they controlled the ball on offense through great passing and choices made by passers. They did well to take advantage of as many opportunities as they could. Greece was terrible from every angle, especially their defense and passing/ball control. They seemed like they were not into it at all. South Korea should be a strong contender if they can sustain their control of the ball against the teams with physically stronger players.

Ji-sung's goal was sweet finesse.
