I don't understand this "expecting the US to lose to England mentality". England has their shortcomings as a team just like everyone else, they're not really this big football powerhouse like they once were. It's not like they're Spain :p
Personally I would be surprised if England beat the US. Granted, our backline can be quite at times. Rooney could very well make us all look like s lol

Bas, you got to get real. Yes the US team is probably better than they've ever been but honestly, the is the greatest and best performing team England have produced in nearly half a century.
I just don't see the USA having the goods to take down shrek, robo-crouch, Stevie G and Lamps, especially with the defense (or lack of it) that the USA has.

Because Rooney, Stevie G, Lamps, and Crouch are all new to the squad, right? :p

What I've been reading about the US gives me a vibe that they'll under-perform this time, although on paper they seem the 2nd strongest team of the group. England is out of their reach.
The team that has surprised me recently is France, they struggled badly in qualifying, but I watched this week's friendly with Costa Rica and they were playing remarkably well, Gourcuff, Ribery and Toulalan in particular. The team does have weaknesses, the defence is shaky, the forward (Anelka or Henry) seems a little disconnected, Mandanda wasn't very secure (I do have faith in Lloris!), but that midfield is very convincing and very well supported by two world class fullbacks. Watch out for them.
I'd say that for this WC it's looking like this
main favs: Spain, then Brazil, then England
strong outsiders who could still snatch the title: Holland, Germany and France
teams that are usually considered favs, but I believe to be too unbalanced at the moment to go all the way: Portugal (sadly), Argentina (ing Maradona has ed it up already), Italy (it's a mess there right now! they do have a really easy group but won't go far afterwards)

I could care less about Crouch. The sole reason why I don't is because I still have high hopes that, if England wins the World Cup, he'll do the robot dance.
That's pretty much all I want from this world cup.

I don't reckon he's as good as the others on the team but this is ing superb, especially from Stevie G who sets it up:
