All right, let me see if I get this straight.
Great Britain consists of England, Wales, and Scotland; and, if you add Northern Ireland to the mix, you get the United Kingdom. By all accounts, you can call all these four groups of people as Brits. You all share a common government based in Westminster (and you were governed until very recently by a couple of Scots), speak mostly the same language, have a long history together, and compete as one in the Olympics.
What is it that you (don't) share together as British, and why don't you have just one football team? I know there are historical reasons but wouldn't it be smarter to have the best players of all the UK competing together, rather than against one another? What are the cultural/political reasons that go against that? |
