So I'll save it here for prosperity because it's damn funny :p |
i read that story, and i could totally relate to it. i was once classmates with a talented and gifted kid, and also a kid with a mentally slower brain functionality.
i consider myself the average bear, not too stupid, but not too smart, and based on my experience, sometimes the slower kid is a better classmate to be with, compared to the talented and gifted kid.
the t&g kid would tend to be unsocialble to us, and sometimes have that "i am better than you" attitude all the time whether if it was in or out of the classroom. i like some competitiveness now and again in life, but not all the time. the t&g kid would get real obsessive with trying to be #1. i remember this one time we were playing basketball, and we beat his team 3 times in a row, and we could just tell how much frustration the kid was going through.
however, the slower brain kid was a pretty cool guy. there were times he would have problems finishing his sentences, and often slur in the middle of a sentence, but he was very sociable to all of us, and was a happy kid on most days. like every teenager, we all had our good and bad days. hah! in the beginning we would laugh at his struggles in classes, but later on, he just grew on us, so when we saw he was having real difficulties with something, we would help him out a bit, and he would finish the rest. i guess he appreciated our help, never really showed it much, but i am happy now when i look back to see i helped a guy in trouble. when it was basketball time, he had his struggles here and there, but the most noticeable part of the whole thing was that he was having fun.
lol apologies for the long post. :o |
