So I had been unsure of whether I would post this on the c0r, considering I know a lot of you are douche bags and would probably take this as an opportunity to pounce and attack, but oh well, Imma tell you anyway.
I have been working as a waitress at a local restaurant. The management is utter ... the owner is about 60, and she is the most miserable woman to walk the earth.
She yells and freaks out about random , she insults her employees, and she just makes things in general, really bad.
In the last week alone, she has had 6 people quit on her. On Friday night, a girl didn't show up to work, and when they called her and asked her why, she replied "I thought I had been fired".
The turn over there is phenomenal.
Anyway, ever since I started, she and I haven't gotten along incredibly well. It all started one night when she accused me of not getting my closing duties done, and I asked her *politely*, if she could tell me what I hadn't finished because I was under the impression I had completed everything. She couldn't give me a straight answer, even after I persisted to know (how am I supposed to know what I am doing wrong if you wont tell me?). Finally, realizing she was just being a bitch and trying to come up with something to yell at me about, I told her that I thought she was being unfair. She replied "Well I guess we don't see eye to eye then."
This was the beginning of many not so nice encounters to come.
I knew that this job was bad for me. I came home on a regular basis feeling angry, and on two occasions she actually made me cry (and I am not one who cries easily). The environment in general is incredibly negative. The employees are always unhappy and are always complaining about the way things are run, there are always people walking out on their shifts, or not showing up at all, and obviously there are always so many new people (because they have to CONSTANTLY keep rehiring) that have no idea wtf they are doing, and usually screw up pretty bad.
So on Saturday night I go into work. I am doing my job, and I am going about my business, when the boss lady comes up to me and says "Stop taking tables, but before you go, make sure you do some decorating." This means I have been "cut" and once my tables that I am serving are finished, I can leave and go home. This is regular protocol... nothing out of the ordinary.
Anyway, a couple sits in my section, and I realize that she has not redesignated the tables to anyone else. So, being the good employee that I am, I take the table so that they don't sit there not being served, and figure if I need to, I can transfer the table to someone else when they figure out. In my midst of trying to figure out who is supposed to cover my section, one of the waiters discovers that I have been cut before him, and he gets all pissed off.
That waiter ends up going to the boss and asks her why I had been cut before he had been, and whilst they are conversing, I walk up behind them and over hear her saying "I didn't tell her that", and he replies "well that's what she said" and she says "it's not my fault she's messed up in the head."
WTF?!
Ok, this woman has treated me like garbage from day one. She has pushed me around, insulted me to my face, and to other people, she has deliberately made me close when I wasn't supposed to, and deliberately made me wait for tables for hours before giving me one. She has made me do her bitch jobs, and has never once thanked me for anything. Even the other employees started saying to me "we're surprised you even show up anymore".
I mean, she is a bitch to everyone, but she had been just a little nastier to me in particular.
I knew that one of these days she would push me, and I would snap. This was that day.
She walked away, and I looked at the guy she had just said that to, and I asked - stunned "did she just say that I am messed up in the head?" And he replies "Yep."
Immediately my anger sky-rocketed. The blatent disrespect for me just put me over the edge, so I walked into the kitchen to calm myself down. She sees me all angry and comes into the kitchen and yells "Whats the matter in here?! What's going on?" I replied "I really don't appreciate you going to other employees and telling them that I am messed up in the head", to which she replied "I didn't say that!" and I retorted with "I was standing right behind you when you said it; I heard you say it".
She got right up in my face, started shaking her finger at me and yelled "You're a liar!" I looked at her and said "*Employee she had initially said it to's name* confirmed it" and she replies "Well he's an idiot too" and storms off to go find him.
He comes up to me like 5 mins later and says "Thanks for throwing me under the bus". WTF was I supposed to do? She was calling me a liar, as if I was making up... you know, being that I am messed up in the head and all.
Anyway, I finish my shift and go about my business, but the incident was still really bugging me.
At the end of the night, I went to her office and I said "I think it was very unprofessional of you to slander me to another employee, and I really didn't appreciate it." and she said "well, maybe it would be best if you found some place else to work then."
So, in short, I was fired, and quite conveniently for her, it was THREE DAYS before my 3 month probation was up.
:whip:
I have already started a complaint with the labour board of Ontario to try and retrieve the 15 hours worth of work she didn't pay me for when I started. She also deducted $80 (WAY TOO MUCH) from my first pay for a shirt without my permission, or any notification. She also forces her employees to punch out before they are finished working, and they deduct 3% of your total read out from you on a nightly basis, and actually keep some of it for themselves (the rest goes to the kitchen and bar staff).
Bleh! |
