totally. there's enough generic promo photos/bios out there already. i'm sure if you/me/Drew/whoever else put our minds together, we can come up with a cool idea for a promo shot.
also, a good start might be to read bios of other DJs on discogs/myspace/etc just to get some ideas. you don't necessarily have to copy those or even use any of the same ideas/formats, but it definitely helps to see what else is out there. |
Yeah - completely agree on all fronts. I just spoke with JJ as well, and since his job for basically the last two years has been putting press kits together (and oddly, all he did in London was put together press kits for UK EDM acts), and he's all for helping.
I was not at all confident at first, but with the three of you helping me out, + help from our internet buddies, I'm pretty sure we'll come up with something decent :) |

it begins with talking in the third person
"Robert Turner first discovered music aged 3 when his mum was busking outside walmart. After he became addicted to jam donuts, Robert set out trying to earn his own money to buy some. He set up some turntables and set out playing with his jive bunny and kylie lp's to staggering success. Robert had a natural talent and before long was booked to play kids birthday parties..."
the basic thing is to talk as much BS as possible. it always works! |

| As a relative unknown (sorry but lets just say for sake's being) i would delve into your style in your bio but not try and define it too staunchly. Let the people do it, plus needing to gig as much as you can obviously you know as an opener you must have a broad range. I hope this makes sense..3 grams and a couple papers later it always sounds good. |

The problem is that it's too easy to do that and sound like a gay.
When it comes to writing philosophy papers or bullting on TA, I'm nothing but class. When it comes to writing something to whore myself, I'm wretched. |

+1, I have 6th grade skills in that area.
Can't help you much. |

lol... makes sense to me. And no worries about being a "relative unknown," that may still yet be the understatement of the century, "complete unknown" might be more apt :p
The one thing I know I'd like to add are abilities as an opener. If there's one thing that I've become pretty happy with, it's the fact that the people who do know me in Chicago, also seem to think that I'm a pretty versatile opener.
, maybe that's a bit arrogant to say - I don't mean to say I'm some awesome opening DJ, but it's one thing that I've been very happy to get as much feedback on as I have. |

| never heard you open...as long as you don't go all out or play the headliners tracks usually thats fine as long as your transitions don't sound like clovis's:p |

Congrats on the gig, Rob. :)
I leave in 45 minutes to go to Lethbridge, Alberta, CA to visit some relatives for six days. It's like 90 minutes or so from Medicine Hat (yeah, the Medicine Hat) so I'm gonna stop by there because I don't think I'll be able to stand some of my relatives for all that long. I'll probably be without interwebs, which should be a nice break.
Have fun, s. :) |
