Yeah, every single one of my American friends have said the same thing to me. The media, in general, is highly highly insular to anything that doesn't have an immediate or potential effect on the US.
Australia is quite opposite at times though. Nothing particularly exciting happens here, so there is a lot of focus on international 'whatevers.' |
SBS news is the best for that kind of coverage, ABC running a close second but the commercial stations are the usual lot of riff raff journalism and 'trite' current affairs. |

the US isolation though is extraordinary. |
It truly is an awesome thing. And I don't mean that in a positive way. It's just amazing how the manipulation of information can be used in such a way to completely polarize several million people with the mere fluctuation of pixel transmission. Why, you could invade a country - or several for that matter - without anyone knowing any better. You could even wage secret wars around the world with nobody really knowing that they were, in fact, fronting the bill for it all. Truly amazing. |

Getting out was slightly worse actually, there was a 'fuss' and I'll probably have to wait until there's a change of administration before they'll ever let me back in there on a work visa again... |

Yep, it still staggers the mind to notice the latest crop of conspiracy lunatics who are looking inward for things like the 9-11 attacks as being a 'self pwn' from the government. It makes me laugh in a sort of very dark-humoured way because of their own ignorance about what the US state gets up too outside their own borders.
People, sadly and sometimes are justified in hating the USA, because Uncle Sam is doing them over and a very small percentage hate the US enough to go beyond buying the 'I hate USA' t-shirt and flag burning to actually go blow some stuff up.

Sort of, I ended up back in Aust on sort of a refugee/residency status after Zimbabwe went to hell. There's all sorts of dodgy reasons I wasn't allowed back into the US, mostly my own fault in the end but not a lot which I could do about it and certainly cannot talk about. |

Those kinds of guys in the now 'infamous' PDD debate are all over the engineering and political reasons for these kinds of things, they don't touch on the psychological profile of either-
Themselves (short of name calling that is)
The people that do it and the people that cause it
The outside events leading up to it (50+ years of woeful policy)
I think we're pretty safe :p
Lot of its why I gave up having anything to do with that stupid forum... probably Lira's fault for not banning more of them :haha:
