The talented & gifted child sees himself above his so-called peers. Likely because he or she was raised that way and their apparent talent or gift is a result of their parents both providing a positive learning environment where they are encouraged and rewarded by diligence as well as conditioned to have a strong sense of self-efficacy which occasionally results in a superiority complex. Of course this is not always the case, but it sounds like a common enough pattern to me.
It's not necessarily that the kid is naturally stuck up due to his or her strong points - it's that they are imbued with the mentality as such because of the way they are treated by their parents, and all too often this behaviour is reinforced by social environments, especially when academic competition is involved.
Act as a rock star and people will treat you as one or something along those lines~ |
exactly. of course, since it was high school, we all prejudged him as "stuck up", and didn't want to make friends with him, because of his competitive nature. unfortunately, if you took away that from his personality, i have no idea who he would be. i wish i took the chance to get to know him a bit more. |
