Guys,
I'm translating a survey for a friend, and I'm stuck. What's the difference in English between:
Tasty vs Savoury vs Flavoursome
Pungent vs Sour
...
Either there's a semantic inequality in Portuguese, or I got the definitions of "Savoury" and "Pungent" all wrong :(
Edit: new word found :( |
tasty is simply attractive. it's more light-hearted.
savoury is much more rich. it relies upon a greater depth, and is to be soaked in, rather than simply enjoyed. it's more of a satisfaction & appreciation.
flavoursome just means it's got a lot going on. it may not work together vary well, but it's strong.
pungent is penetratingly bad. it overcomes obstacles, and forces its way into notice.
sour just is not pleasant, but can be avoided. |
