I posted this in a recent Jazz thread in MD...

Jazz is one of, if not (in my opinion), the most inspirational form of music ever. I've played Jazz Bass and a bit of Alto Sax for about eight years now and I've had more fun doing that than I have doing anything else. It has actual soul. The expressiveness that comes from improvisation is incredible, and there's nothing better than just jamming with your friends for hours upon hours, non-stop, playing and improvising the whole time and making ing awesome music in the process. It's an aspect that I think is very lacking from EDM, something that I would like to try and tackle in the form of a live PA of some sort in the future. Underworld and few acts come close, but not close enough. |

| Jazz is one of those types of music that has to be live, it doesn't seem to carry the energy across in recordings for some reason, for me at least. |

| Hmm I guess. I just love it in general. I took a Jazz class in college and learned so much as well as gained a whole new respect for the genre. |

I hate people who like jazz music.
And I hate people who support the jazz music festival in front of my building even more.
Jazz should be banned.

This is a very ignorant point musically. Truth is that jazz had a profound inspiration towards musical forms that evolved during the 20th century, especially the improvisational aspect of jazz.
During the 20s jazz clubs became host to blacks and whites partying together...this hadn't happened much before hand.
Its just amazing, beautiful music. Of course some people are snobs about it and listen to it because they think it makes them look 'cool' but people do that with EDM too. A lot of jazz musicians really know music, the complexity of composition and performing of their music is un-matched.
I especially love when artists combine EDM and jazz. Artists like St. Germain and Les Hommes. |

Least the tracklist is fast :p
I don't mix often enough (or seriously enough) to warrant lashing out on a host with a lot of bandwidth, so I guess it's suitable for what it is as a freebie. Really depends on the time of day with that one, sometimes you can pull a set down off it pretty quick if there's not a lot of people using it. |

I'd say that applies more to "classical" (even though the term is misused beyond belief) than to anything else.
at least nowadays. When people still listened to it, definitely not. But how many people who go nowadays to big festivals or nights for, say, a collection of Baroque masterpieces, aren't there for:
A. Business
B. Enjoyment of the event, itself
C. An attempt to impress
D. General Social...something
who haven't performed something at least remotely similar at a fairly serious level?
answer: a lot fewer than there are at, say, a Jazz Festival. |

Blah blah blah.
I hate jazz because I have to listen to it non-stop from my apartment from the time I awake to the time I go to bed for 4 days in a row.
And it isn't even good quality sound... I basically only hear a ty bass with a very weak melody.
You wouldn't like jazz so much if all you could hear was "bang bang bang bang" for 16 hours straight, 4 days in a row either. |
