clovis, while I mostly agree on your points, culture does matter to certain cultures, because for a girl or a boy not of that culture to marry into a certain culture, the culture shock may be really significant, leading to problems in the relationship if the 'foreigner' can't adapt.
They say love conquers all, but well, sometimes the culture difference makes things really, really, tough. To adapt for a new culture which may mean learning a new language, change basic lifestyle from eating to sleeping, etc in an alien culture is tough. Though less in a multicultural society |
I am aware of this. I was best friends with a lebanese kid when I was in france, and though our differences were quite astounding (he once told me that he firmly believed that all palestinian suicide bombers were israeli agents trying to make palestinians look bad) we found much common ground in music and other areas, and were able to have lengthy discussions about our differences. The problem is, with the race card, you shut people out before even making any effort to see what they're really like. We can't get people to be more understanding if we allow things like that to continue as the norm. You have to push in the other direction if you want change. |
