Agree with the others, great. The bassline is spot on. My vote is yours. |

Good job really well done!! :) |

OK time for me to join in the fray here. This one's almost finished but I can't for the life of me figure out a good intro and outro. Any ideas? General consensus on the track itself?
|
Sounds really good to me. Mixing and arrangement are good to me. Only thing is it kind of euro tranceish but with enough modern elements that it works if that is the style you want. Very melodic. |

Thanks for the feedback guys.
aNYthing, I think I understand what you mean about the breakdown synth. Is it just the sound though? If I applied the melody to something else do you think it may be ok, or do you think the whole middle part needs a rework?
evo8, I'll admit I still have a lot to learn with buildups. I suppose the risers are a cheap shot but they kinda work for now. Happy to take on board any suggestions for something else though :)
Trancelover03591, is the euro trance feel a bad thing? I originally intended it as a progressive house track with a nod to earlier trance styles hence the supersaw arp. |

It all comes down to personal preference. I think you did it right, mostly modern sounds/feel with a throwback element or two. |

Ok, so, I finally "finished" a track - e.g. laid out all the loops into something that has an outline of a finished product. It's a very melancholy, dark prog/housey/ravey trance. I haven't finished a single track, so I think in this one I was making up for all of it - and it's at modest ~13 mins or so. But it slowly evolves into what I felt was a pretty slick middle and then pretty energetic ending.
It was intended to evolve from start to finish - so, if you can, give it a listen in its entirety and let me know what you think.
Few things I noticed already - there's a ducking that jumps out at one point and dips the volume. I also listened to it on a mono speaker laptop and looks like my "bells" are only 1 channel - wonder how to fix it. Ideas? |
Lots of ideas going on here. Most tracks nowadays are less than half the length of this! If this is the first track that you have finished I think it is a good place to be at. I would recommend you find a reference track in the style you like (Markus Schulz/Dakota for example) and build the track in a similar way. The mixing is pretty good to me, as is the sound design, though there is always room for improvement. I find lots of cool independent ideas don't usually work together. Instead, find one key idea, and then build around it. Focus and restructure. |

Spot on -I have a hard time finishing tracks because I get distracted. This one started one way, then went elsewhere. I had a hard time letting go of some elements.
I explained it away as Deadmau5-esque,but I'm seeing the need to trim it myself. The important part for me is that I finished it, at least theoretically. Now comes the part of perfecting it, then off to the new challenge. Thanks for your feedback - any other thoughts are welcome

Not sure if anyone ever posts non EDM in here but what the heck . Im not great at being objective or critical with dance music, but Id love to give feedback on more ambient type stuff.
Plan on making a 4-6 minute version of the track with some field recordings I will be taking at the beach in a few weeks and maybe get my brother to take some during his trip to Spain/Ibiza soon, but this is the basic idea for the track. Going for a dark, warm, loungey beach vibe. Tear it to shreds :) only way I will improve. |

I like the sounds. It sounds like you're writing your song in 32 bar phraesses....so to chop it down just think in 4 and 8bar phrases. So whenever you bring in a new sound, it woyuuld come in every eight bars.

Has a nice happy sound to it, sounds like summer. |

To me it sounds like the melody is not pronounced quite enough, like its a bit muffled. The bassline sounds a bit off key, but that might just be because its hard for me to hear the melody. It blends in too much with the other noise effects I guess.
Like the idea / sound of the song though. |

love the start, really nice
when the bass comes in it seems "out of phrase" to me, i think its because you are at a higher bpm than i thought as the acid part seems fast - and that acid part doesnt really work for me :-/ |

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, Sometimes the acid part sounds "ok" to me and sometimes it sounds good, but I am sure I could make it work in the song better. I played around in Omnisphere a bit trying to make a melody that kinda "hauntingly drifts" through the song, but nothing I was putting out was sounding as good as the 303 part I recorded at first.
EDIT:
Misread "out of phrase" with "out of phase", I know what you mean now. |
