New LD&B concept. Not really sure about this on the arrangement /composition level but I keep coming back to it.
No mix so may be a little harsh. Vox is still out of place

Wondering where the slow arp will go when drums are there. Feels a bit odd at first. With the bass coming in I get happy.
Nice and solid seperation between drums and the bass, solid tailed donk-style bass. Cool effects. Vox do indeed need work, mostly timestretching I'd say to make it fit patterns of the song.
Around the 1:45 mark I'm expecting some chords to play on top of the bass.
Fast arp around 2:15 is nice! Everything excluding the vocals is solid. I'm missing for a clear theme/hook to elevate the whole thing. If only some supersaw chords on top of the bassline. |

Thanks bud, yea I have this odd feeling about some of the arrangement too. Not sure about placement on some placeholders.
Timestretching....yea, I hate doing that but I know. I am working on another piece that I literally couldn't chop up and HAD to....it does work
I am also trying to work on that just Big something whether it be a lead or...something. But, until then...I like the tonality of the mix and the movement of the piece. Just not quite at my liking right yet.
Thanks Story! |

Keeping (or trying to) it alive. And if this Track doesn't get a flag, I would be very surprised as this is a Columbia release..lol
Don't laugh.....I have no idea why this popped in my head to remix and it's early early stages of pre production with a lot of place holders.
So...IF it remains...

Overall, I dig it man.
Things I specifically like :
- Warm undertones, nice bass-line
- Enjoyable melodic content and interplay
- Nice natural arrangement and good usage/phrasing of vocals
- Majority of the supporting elements
Things I specifically don't like :
- Saw-wave trance synth that comes in at ~1:00...Clashes with the vibe hard once fully filtered in...though it's pleasant while filtered back down and wandering around in the back.
Things to maybe consider :
- Automate the delay on the vocals instead of "always on". Clever use of this could clarify some phrasing, while better accentuating the important bits. Always on just a little, boring I guess...
best of luck...pretty much already there imho. Bit of polish and some refinement and it'll be a solid tune for sure. |

Hey Thanks for that T...
Still a lot of placeholders I need to sort through but that 1:00 minute mark Saw , the intention is to mimic the main lead from the original which is actually a piano. Not sure if you have heard the original before but I guess I should go re think my approach on that. Maybe even try a blending with automation on a combo of that tone and another.
Vox...I gotta get a better rip of that. It is so compressed and really is awful in the mix. And totally agree on the constant delay and verb on. Generally, I would put that as a tail to a word or phrase.
Yea, again dunno why I choose this song to remix. It just popped in my head and it started to work. Hopeful to complete it but totally surprised it hasn't been struck by a copyright hit..lol
What you guys got!!! Lets hear it! |

I'll give the original a listen...(if you've got a link?)
And of course, that's just my personal opinion within the available context...
Don't get me wrong...I think your current rendition sounds quite professional... and I do think it's good. So grain of salt and all that.
As to the delay... just suggesting, you might try having a little fun with it, and see what happens.
Been trying myself, to get better interplay between the various elements, and I think tunes def. benefit from that little extra attention to detail...
Been at work on nights under pretty rigorous hours for the last 3 months... haven't made much progress other than tightening up the low end on that last project... I've got ideas for sure though. |

Very surprised you do not know it. It actually is John Mayer and the song is called Dreaming with a Broken Heart. Probably one of John's biggest hits.

I have quite a few tracks going but all are incomplete although very close to prepping for mix down.
For myself, I am once again moving like literally tomorrow..lol So, I will be out of commission for a few months. So, when I get back all these tracks are gonna begin the new year I guess =O)
Until then..hopefully with the Holidays you guys can spend some time and bounce out some WIPs and postem here! |

Well, what are ya going for? Can't say the original post had much context to go off of. :P
Having now listened to the original a couple times and compared, it'd then be my assumption that you're attempting to stick to the original vibe, but taken in the DnB direction.
I think it works great btw. Good choice, good adaptation. Definitely a worthwhile tune.
I couldn't pick out the piano lead you're referencing though. Might be worth considering the guitar and the way it interacts within the context of the original...as that's the one that seems most contextually similar to me.
Suppose I'm pretty visual. Dreaming with a Broken Heart puts me on the back porch after a hard break-up, staring off into the tail-end of a sunset on a warm summers eve...Drowning my sorrows with a bottle of tequila.
Your tune as-is, gives me more evening/driving vibes. Cruising away from it all, down dark empty streets accented with soft city lights...but then out of nowhere a police cruiser comes hauling ass at me from behind, lights and sirens on...blowing by and off into the distance...Only to return in the opposite direction a minute later...effectively disrupting the nice vibe I was attempting to escape into.
Definitely agree melodically with what you've got going on, and even the tonal aspect, up until it gets completely filtered in at those 2 sections...
If you happen to feel similarly about this...there's plenty things to try, either individually done, or combinations thereof.
-Automate volume down while filtering in
-automate in some more reverb/stereoization
-don't filter in all the way
-Make copy, use different bus, use different eq for better open filter blending, and keep the original tucked in the background.
-Etc...
Could also enjoy what you've got, and leave it alone...the opinion from 1 random internet stranger maybe doesn't hold enough weight to warrant it.
Best of luck mang. |

After a few months without producing I got back to it today and revisited this old unfinished one again.
I had a happy accident while producing which resonated with me personally so I tried venturing into a deep mix. Secondly I altered the original. I'm not sure yet how to fit in the lead guitar sound any better although I do like it.

Rose Petal Rain (Deep Mix) - this one has really nice unwinding flavor to it which catch my attention (right along my aisle). Short but intriguing already. Drums cerate's pretty casual but cool atmosphere.
