Here's something I've been working on this week.
|
This! Dig it!, always appreciated that 90's progressive oakenfold'ish vibe.
And I do realize that it is probably pre mix however..
betting if those cymbals were eq'd and touched up a bit that it would add much more swing to your over all percussion track.
This track needs a lead or a up front Arp |

Working on a downtempo / trip hop type track. I like the main melody, but I am just not sure about where I am taking the track overall... |
I can so hear Jonathan Davis singing over this.
Its actually pretty cool.
It has flow, which is good, yet it needs a point where it grows some tension which results in some sort of heavy heavy "chorus"
As well, the intro with 20 seconds of filtered percussion at the beginning becomes redundant after 5 seconds.
Fer sure want to hear this completed |

Not one of my favorite tracks from you.
Experimental and very progressive, yes. The outcome however seems to be an odd timing bass rhythm with a looped percussion string.
It would appear to me, your using a straight time percussion yet, your bass craves a groove.
*side note - I think every producer ever to use a computer to compose a track has gone off on experimentation at some point or another.
Hell , some tracks are created off parts, sometimes if created simplistically enough they can become full songs.
With that said, your track seems a bit "experimental". Nothing wrong with that at all, and lets face it, unless you are a producer who creates tracks from templates,everything.. starts with being experimental.
The difference here is 1: You knowing the difference between your experimental tracks and full track potentials.
2: Time
I have heard and read many producers saying they use the 24 hour rule.
If within 24 hours of working the track, if it does not have "Full Track Potential", ditch it.
Personally, I see value in that statement however ,early on I couldnt get rid of anything I did in fear that I wouldnt create anything again..lol.
But as time went on, I realized those tracks that I no longer played/worked on were only experimental tracks and nothing really stood out.
Essentially, using up valuable hard drive space
Now, in the early stages of song creation where I am playing with a beat and/or a melody, if it aint gellin..it's gone.
If there is an area of the track that I DO like, I save that area and catalog it.
This is just an observation. I could be very well wrong however, I have listened to a number of your tracks and know which I would consider to be full track potentials vs experimental. This is one I would chalk up to experimental |
Hey, thanks for your observation!
Yeah, it's not in my favorite tracks either :)
I've searched for some free vsts synth plugins and tried OB-Xd and i liked how it sounds. After some fiddling with the plugin this came out...
I usually work 2 days on an idea... never more. But then (if it's not really terrible) need about 2 days to figure out is it any good. That's why i post it here, to find out earlier :) |

Oh, I didn't even notice this comment until now.
I actually fiddled with the arps (there's three of them now) and the mixdown, and... well, it's signed now :D |

This percussion sample sounds like its being pushed through from the other side of a tunnel.
I would highly suggest looking into either better samples or recreate the loop with better sampled one shots. |

Yeah, that is pretty... odd. But that piano thing at the end is nice. You could create an entirely new piece around that. |

New Pre mix wip track Im working on. Still unsure on the composition as I switched melodies from the end to the middle arrangement. Not sure if it's blending right though.
