Yeah no problem, and I kinda figured as much. Sorry I couldn't be more help than that. Thought at least, isolating what these ears thought might be missing vs. the original could be helpful in some way or another...as it was a bit, I dunno... je ne sais quoi.
And for me, figuring out what kinda synthesis is getting used, has always been the first half of the battle.
And thanks! Most of CD1 [and then some] is up on my YT...Oddly related to this discussion, as that was entirely a sound-matching challenge. Created a lot of custom synths for that project. Hoping to do the entire OST...someday.

Weirdest ever....Long story short. Remix contest with pretty eye opening prizes. The Pre req's are in novel form including some just real bonker thinking up rules that your track has to be in,like : G# min 00:03:40 in length no longer or shorter,exact must be in your registered producer genre (fortunately I put LD&B), you are given one sample you must use, and you have only 24 hours to do it in.

Oddly, as far as duration goes...that seems about the amount of time a DnB track takes to really get going...
Least you didn't register for trance and they handed something like that to ya...that woulda been...an actual trainwreck lol.
Wish there was a bit more underneath it at ~1:30 and then towards the end, but with only 24h to crank it out, I think it's a pretty solid go at it. Had me listenin' to the end, even though I think trap vocals are blaghhhhhh. Sounds like something stuffed in their cheek while attempting to sing.
For s and giggles, since A) You provided the acapella... B) I was bored and C) I've never done anything like that before / it seemed like it'd be fun...decided to have a stab at it for absolutely no good reason [at midnight +4 hours]...
So for absolutely no good reason...here's an addition of a darker DnB/breaks version for the WIP thread :D. I went as long as I could tolerate the vocals.

Nah, I wouldnt say better. Different maybe, but I always find myself surprised when it comes to taste and preference.

Yeah I'm not a big fan of vocoders either.
Putsing around with this idea/piano still...seems like there's some potential there for sure...And I'm always happy when I can use funky piano chords in a tune. 5th bar of the piano backing is a C#6/A5/G#5/A4.
I have an issue participating in this thread because first I dont even know if I should be critical of anything because a) I have issues of my own b) music is pretty free-form, there is no wrong only wrongly perceived in a way "does it fall into a standard" so idk.
ill give my ter 2 cents.
first sounds half a lot better to me. I feel like you're having a somewhat similar problem to what I usually have, in the low end band.
its like you're pushing up the low band up in a smushy way. and the reverb on the bass doesnt seem aesthetically pleasing as you introduce more elements. I really like the ping pongy synth and the track is really cool as well.

Nah, it's all good. And I think you *should* participate, at least...if it's something you enjoy doing. Plus, it's typically dead as here and...who cares? If I recall, you've actually released to a label yeah? Even further, I remember a lot of your mixing being rather educational for me. Raphie, was probably the other standout fella that had the patience / took the time to help a noob like me.
So yeah, if anyone's the ter it's still me...I'm just an enthsuastic hobbyest :)
You could probably criticize even the best of music until the cows come home...Such is the nature of art, and personal preference.
Would say though...that if 4/5 of the posters here said "Bass is an issue", then that'd be worth investigation. If only 1 said they didn't like it...well, then maybe preference? But to that end, the more...the merrier I think. Giving and receiving feedback here, has definitely helped my production value I'd say.
I do also think as the producer, it might be beneficial to note what sorta feedback one is looking for. Personally, any feedback at all is fine for me...I'm not picky. Just happy someone bothered listening tbfh.
Now, am I mixing industry standard? No. Absolutely not. Painfully aware of my gear/setup...and that it would require more money than I'm currently willing to throw at this. (A new house...) Listenable is a great achievement for me, anything deemed at or near-professional would be the absolute .
And in the world of beats by dre, ear-buds, and untrained ears...I think most people only care up to a certain point anyway.
I can definitely hear what you're talking about though. Attribute it more towards focusing on the sequencing and arrangement, than on the mix. An arrangement with good transitions / sound FX is where I struggle bad, as well as stitching together a coherent image/story...So that's where those 3-4 hours spent on it went. (Actually, most of it was spent just ing around with automating gross-beat for the glitch/chopped sections)
Only other tidbits of interest...The first bass that comes in has 0 reverb, but does have a ping-pong delay with the lower cutoff set to 1khz. Per ancient wisdom, I tend to only make cuts with an EQ. I spent very little time auditioning the track on any of my other monitoring tools, and coincidentally...didn't really bother too much with the mix itself.
Putting it on my big system, revealed exactly what you brought up. Low-end sounded like mush, and the mid-range due to the big saws reverb gets drowned/washed out.
Things that could definitely be done : Ditch preset reverbs and use valhalla vintage instead...use cans and get everything sitting in the same acoustic space. Separate out sliced DnB kick and sequence separately...EQ and compress it separately for better punch/snap. (Which I thought about but didn't do because it's a pain in the ass)
Something I didn't do...is re-work the mix-down after all the elements were added. Usually ends up with me setting the kick at -6db, turning everything to zero, and bringing it all back in at the loudest section. I was just adding instrumentation in a hurry as I heard it...rather than getting bogged down in the mixing.
Could be interesting to take a pass at it in a few days on fresh ears and focus on the mix. Re-post it, and see if I'm just full of or not :)

wish u guys didnt bring up that frivolous fact, signing a small label means nothing, damn maybe a prestigious label like bedrock sure, even then it means nothing proportionate to skill.
it is my belief that I have not ever created a great track, its on my bucket list for sure.

Not going to lie. We all have been here for quite some time and seen quite a few peeps get big from here ( Sunny - Joel - wonders where ol Richard Butler is ) and I remember you as well sharing your experiences prior and quite frankly, as someone peering from the outside in at that time...I learned it wasn't for me (getting signed to a label) and it still permeates with me today.
In other words, believe it or not, you sharing over the years has been noticed and on this thread in particular, I remember being the guy who didn't say much but peered in from time to time because quite honestly;compared to you guys...I didn't feel worthy enough to. If It wasn't for Dave ( Cryo ) and his encouragement (and help), I probably wouldn't be here today.
Bottom line, we all hit bumps and we all have our ego's in which we learn or we don't. We, as artist's will eternally seek to create the "perfect" song,and fail because there is no such thing. But we continue to do it because it feeds our soul somehow and I personally enjoy every piece of music that crosses this thread that people post. And I miss it when there isn't. Your's included,although it has been a LONG while..=OP Story summed it up probably best....it's all about the journey brother....keep it going regardless
