Ah I already made changes before reading your feedback Evo.
Added an Anjuna style vocal etc
Tried already reducing some elements
I quietened the mid bass in response to Storytellers comment.
Let me know where there are too many things going on and I will address
And I wonder now if to increase bass again?
I quietened the knocky kik
Darek thanks for the feed, hopefully the latest incarnation is smoother
Cheers

Started working on this one the past hour or so and feeling fairly good about it. Lots of placeholders but confident in the prominent tones.
I think I may finally have my next original track which I havent done in a long time. |
nice start, has potential... |

Hi Richard,
I feel the mix has improved quite a bit! I experience less of the boxiness which I described earlier. That alone feels like a great improvement already. I do feel like it is still present though, especially on the kick. Is there still some reverb on the kick? Or is it just an acoustic type of kickdrum. Those sometimes have these type of tails when not dampened. I would recommend against changing the kick as it sits in the mix pretty darn well, but there is just something in it's tail that annoys me :).
I'm guessing there is space to increase the bass. I really like where it's sitting now personally. If the volume is put up a bit again I'd suggest just compressing the part where the bass (and saturation as it sounds like) goes up so that it doesn't cut through the mix too hard. I feel like this is almost the opposite of what evo8 is saying but that is how I feel :).
Also some attention to the compression on the overall mix might be beneficial. Sometimes the beats seem to be pushed away for short amounts of time making the overal mix sound a tad nervous. If possible try and get away with milder compression and opt for mild sidechaining here and there, possibly automate drums to lower in volume on some parts to give a bit more space to the instruments.

Which is basically hiphop with a lot of electronic synthwork which back in the days were only used in electronic music. This isn't quite that, a lot more hardcore (newschool-ish) hiphop probably, for as far as I know of genre (which is next to nothing). Anyway, this is badass. I can't tell if the bass goes deep enough but I'm pretty sure at loud volume it will pound like mad. I'm feeling it. Nice tiny sfx in there and very entertaining to the ear. Well done, don't make it too long though I'm guessing that is the only possible pitfall on this ;). Unless you freak out like mad later on.

I like the pads which you start out with behind the lyrics. It does feel a tad out of sync (with the lyrics) to me though. The drums don't do it for me, but I have to admit they fit into the overall picture quite well. The chorus is nice, I like the minimal approach but maybe some extra synth layers on top of the pads will give it more emphasis as now it is more off the same but only marginally different. |

This has a lot of potential and could be really excellent track if is properly finished -> you will need to work on your field of depth for some of your instruments and in overall track + additional improvement in your dynamics level should be consider.
Cheer,

yeah on Richards track i think the bass is spot on now, not sure why i thought it needed to be louder first time, maybe some other stuff in the mix was crowded in first time! |

Here is more develop version of previously posted track (vocal) as some people where interesting about future direction for this production.
At the moment I'm waiting for official vocal recording for this track but as place holder in structure creation process I used some different vocal steams (from Amy) lol, have fun guys:

Real nice sounds there Darek, very upbeat.
Curious about the piano and I guess I am one to give more "depth" to a piano tone but, I am wondering if the piano around 1:40 couldn't have a little verb on them to make them float more thus adding that little atmospheric touch to the backend of that verse as well.
And yea, this screams for vox...can't wait to hear it when it does.

@Darek, I feel the low end is quite lacking. I hear a very very faint bassline. Personally I don't feel the kick either. I think changing these 2 parts in the mix might pull the entire mix together. Good luck :)
@Constantin, I have to agree with Darek's feedback. Work on seperating instruments a bit more with some surgical eq-ing and sfx. Furthermore try bringing out the high end more to improve clarity. |

Really enjoying this, lovely melody line in the break.
I think it could be improved in the drop, particularly the lead sound choice as for me the one you have just now is a bit harsh and kinda generic. Get that right and you're ready to go. IMO of course... |

Nice warm sound quality here and a floatey kind of track that is easy on the easy. Still not keen on some sound choices like the little leed thing that is the first you use - a bit shrill on the ear sometimes.
Post up once the vocals are on it, interesting to see how it ends up. |
