I like it, nice chords and groovy. Kick maybe stands out to much. |

i like this - just need something to come in later, a lead like you said or an arp maybe
i think you have too much sub going on there however, its really heavy |
Thanks, I always had a tendency to go a wee bit crazy on the sub. Old habits die hard.

Yes it's a layer of bass synth, but i don't know how to lower octave just on that layer...I'll check it, thanks. Glad you like the track!
I'm monitoring with 50$ Logitech 2.1 system :). I also have a pair of Zensor 3 on some yamaha reciever in living room. I use that sometimes. If that was what you were asking. |
Which synth is it? Most synth can do this, it is usually somewhere in oscillator/sample settings.
Zensors should serve you pretty well to check on bass, as well as non-skullcandy/beats by dre headphones with a decent frequency range, but keep in mind that headphones don't have a good stereo image and bass can be heard but not felt(how I developed my habit of going crazy on subs). Sorry if this is unsolicited advice you already knew.

Bassline is made with Harmless (link) ... I have beats studio headphones, but yes, bass can just be heard but not felt on headphones :) |

Harmless is a bit specific, as it doesn't have layers in a traditional way, I played with it a bit and ran your bassline through a spectrum analyzer, and I believe its the detune slider that is causing a sine-like sound at 185hz, or F#, while the bassline is mostly at 62hz(B).

Modifying the detune value completely transforms the sound and ruins its character unfortunately. Filtering the low end and replacing it with a different sub as Evo8 suggested does sound like the best solution in this case, yeah. |

Thanks for your time, man! Yeah, filtering sub with eq will do. |

I started making this trance thingy, but before I go on into arrangement I'd like to use your critical ears regarding the mix, I am struggling a bit as its pretty busy, any tips would be appreciated.
There is nothing on the master except for an utility making everything below 200hz mono and a 30hz low cut.
The bass feels particularly weird to me and I wonder if there is something I can do or I should just replace it completely.
Here is a 16 bar section.

i think the mix is ok but the kick and snare/clap arent really grooving with the rest of the track imo |

I would probably try cutting the low end of the bass some more, it sounds quite boomy (on headphones at least) and makes the whole track drag. The whole track needs a bit more room to breathe, so to speak. |

I would either turn the kick down or use a rounder one, as right now it seems to overpower everything else. I really love the percussions on this, and if this was my track I'd expand on that idea (but then again that's what I always do). |

So this is one of the two tracks I'm working on now. This was actually a complete accident - I was just messing around with some 808 samples and just... happened.

| Can't find much to say about this as the style is very alien to me(perhaps thats just how the genre is supposed to be?) The chords don't sit well with everything else at all to me, again it could just be a matter of taste, chords sound very dark to me and the beat seems overly enthusiastic and its a really strange mix. Mixdown and all is fine. |

Yeah, that's a bit of a personal quirk of mine. I like to create a slight feeling of unease even on the happier tracks. The complete track underlines that even more :D |
