Sounding really good all around, interested to see where you go with it. |

Working on a downtempo / trip hop type track. I like the main melody, but I am just not sure about where I am taking the track overall... |

I was actually ready to throw it out there, but after sitting on it for a couple of days I now feel it's missing that final piece that makes it complete. |

Dude, that is dark as hell. I like the sounds you used and athmosphere is creepy warm, but i had to listen "n-joi anthem" twice after this :) |

I like the second part more too (from 1:20) |

How's this?

That organy riff is nice especially with the open nasally filter later on, and this part could form the basis of a big track if you got the drums right etc |

I like it, but have 2 suggestions;
1) Introduce a bigger lead maybe with atmospheric layers later on that has plenty of movement and playing style - just to round off the journey
2) The drum rhythmically is nice but the sound is not quite as good as could be. I can imagine some more live sounding drums and a bit more defined in sound. Maybe have the drums you have with a hi and low pass filter for first minute and then bang in with a lovely live play loop? |

| Thanks, but I finished this off yesterday. It's got a metallic/distorted pad coming in at the second half of the melody and a completely different mixdown. |

Not one of my favorite tracks from you.
Experimental and very progressive, yes. The outcome however seems to be an odd timing bass rhythm with a looped percussion string.
It would appear to me, your using a straight time percussion yet, your bass craves a groove.
*side note - I think every producer ever to use a computer to compose a track has gone off on experimentation at some point or another.
Hell , some tracks are created off parts, sometimes if created simplistically enough they can become full songs.
With that said, your track seems a bit "experimental". Nothing wrong with that at all, and lets face it, unless you are a producer who creates tracks from templates,everything.. starts with being experimental.
The difference here is 1: You knowing the difference between your experimental tracks and full track potentials.
2: Time
I have heard and read many producers saying they use the 24 hour rule.
If within 24 hours of working the track, if it does not have "Full Track Potential", ditch it.
Personally, I see value in that statement however ,early on I couldnt get rid of anything I did in fear that I wouldnt create anything again..lol.
But as time went on, I realized those tracks that I no longer played/worked on were only experimental tracks and nothing really stood out.
Essentially, using up valuable hard drive space
Now, in the early stages of song creation where I am playing with a beat and/or a melody, if it aint gellin..it's gone.
If there is an area of the track that I DO like, I save that area and catalog it.
This is just an observation. I could be very well wrong however, I have listened to a number of your tracks and know which I would consider to be full track potentials vs experimental. This is one I would chalk up to experimental |
