Seriously, why does the present tense of 'to be' always seem to be är, no matter what the pronoun, that struck me. |

Love your a° (can't write it with this keyboard, too lazy to open 'special caracters') letters, they're cool. Not as cool as the Norwegian O/ though hehe.
And don't you guys have any w's?
|

Em, good point. I think I figured out the ö, it's like 'eu', I guess; yeah, like in Malmö. Pretty sure a° is like board in English. ä is a mystery; in my head, it sounds like best in English, but that's probably way off LOL.
Zweedse uitspraak is redelijk vaak context-afhankelijk.
:)
PS

now record that.
(listen to the clip steve posted and you should hear what i'm talking about)
PS: I know what film you're talking about, i've seen it too, but I don't know the name.. |

You people are cool, this is all helping me; I think I'll look into learning Swedish, really. I checked, it would appear Swedish is an official language in Finland too, extra appealing. What's up Zoran :)
Thanx ScuL, very helpful explanation there. Dutch, Swedish & prolly English, not too bad, congrats. Learned a few essential words there aswell (Han, Hon,...). Dank je wel. And thank you lot for the film ID (that's the one :) ), the channel only maintains backlog for 1 day, I was doomed.
That lesson is in, will have to check tomorrow, but the first minute sounded... crazy. Think I got it, benni, I'll be sure to look up that word in the first Swedish dictionary I come across.
I'll check if I can find a Swedish grammar course, I'll try & pick up vocabulary in dvd subtitles, should be ok. And check films for pronounciation.
I might come back here in a little while, let you guys know how I'm doing maybe; I never intended to hi-jack the thread.
CU, guys, keep it cool up there in Sverige. |

This thread is meant to be hi-jacked. :p
and gl&hf with your Swedish adventure! Swedish can be a bitch though. Lots of weird exceptions and funky stuff like that. ;) |

Imo Swedish is the most useful language in the whole Nordic area. Norwegians can understand you pretty good. It's also spoken in large parts of Finland. If you have mastered Swedish and know Dutch then it's very easy to read Danish as well so basically you can understand people in 4 Nordic countries at once ! :)

I'm born Dutch and learned English, German and French at school. Taught myself Swedish in 1998 for various reasons so I am the man to speak to when learning Swedish when your native language is Dutch. :)

Internet is one of the best sources for learning a language. There are a lot of free courses around. But if you are serious then I can recommend these books.

Also... keep watching movies.. it helps a lot to hear the pronouncuation. If you follow these hints you can speak fluent enough Swedish that is better than the average immigrant within 2 years :D |
