Facebook 3.1 With Push Notifications Coming Soon

Early this morning developer of the iPhone Facebook application, Joe Hewitt, posted that Facebook 3.03 is on it’s way to squash a few bugs. Even bigger news is that update will then be followed by Facebook 3.1 which will include push notifications.
Facebook happens to be one of the most used iPhone applications today while push notifications is the most sought after missing feature from the application. Techcrunch brings up a few valid points regarding how these notifications are currently handled and the potential issues that can arise from an application that will pop up more than a few notifications on your screen. The major issue being if you receive more than one notification you are completely lost as to what the previous notification(s) were for.
Personally I tend to turn off the alerts in certain applications that push a lot of notifications to my iPhone. Applications such as Beejive and Twitbit are just a few that I simply leave the “badge” option on so I can just see how many messages I have. That still does not change the fact that I want a better push notification system…
What are your thoughts on the current push notification system and how would you like to see it improved? Sound off in comments below! |

These so called "push" capabilities are what I like to refer to as a patch of some sort. Due to the fact Apple doesn't allow apps to run in the background necessitates the need of pushing. I never had these problems with notifications in the Windows Mobile on my old HTC (not sure if it's still the same).
Some of us had to install a 3rd party app for allowing apps to "background" just to alleviate some of these problems. |

I've applied this little profile patch to enable Tethering w/ a 500mb data plan.(Don't even know why I've enabled this thethering opition when I dont even use it for my laptops.)
I've noticed my batt life was draining "alittle" more then normal, regardless if it's on / off. So just for the of it, I restored it w/ Firmware 3.0.1. Not gonna bother with 3.1.x, until it's confimred to be OK and DevTeam says JB + unlocking is ready. The list of all these probs popping up with not worth it at all. |

Personally I use Navagon, but I'd still like to see either app make use of traffic data (as Google Map uses) and make adjustments in route planning. |

iPhone/iPod touch Fastest-Growing Consumer Electronic Platform in History

The above graph, part of Morgan Stanley Internet analyst Mary Meeker’s presentation at Web 2.0, showing iPhone/iPod touch as the fastest-growing consuming electronic platform in history pretty much speaks for itself. However, TechCrunch is happy to add a big exclamation point at the end:
[iPhone/iPod touch] adoption ramp is even steeper than videogame consoles including the Nintendo Wii, Nintendo DS, and Sony PSP. The original iPod and Blackberry aren’t even in the same league.
No doubt this plays into Apple’s recent financial results, but building on what must now be around a 60 million strong install base (50 million from last quarter + 7.4 million new iPhones, + undisclosed amount of iPod touches), builds just the kind of momentum that tends towards freight-train like.
TechCrunch also shows charts highlighting the increase in AT&T data traffic since the iPhone came online (4,932%), and how mobile adoption is “outpacing” desktop. Check out the full article, linked above, for more.
