^^^ Yes, all the non legit apps will be gone. Just make sure you have the IPAs backed up on your comp.
I would get a moving with the upgrade, 4.2 is around the corner and even though the jailbreak is out, cydia is not working.

Facebook announced a new unified messaging system today and one of the platforms they are showing it off on is iPhone. Expect a application update later today.

Titan is a staged rollout, so it'll be a bit before we see it I'd reckon.

MobileRSS is horrible.
I've been using Newsrack, Byline and Reeder for almost 2 years. Pulse is great concept and refreshing, it is a data monster though.
