I would use backgrounder for other things, all IMs will be push soon. Backgrounder really kills batt life and data if your plan is very limited.
My monthly data use was 120 mbs with backgrounder with Beejive or Palringo or IM+ with 70% batt drain for 8hrs. 2G mode with heavy use.

Any type of "source" will not be packaged with a stock app/program in modding a phone's firmware.
If that's the case, all th major phone companies can shut these type of groups down right away.
Even when you patched add the repo for AP3.0 and Installous they warn you about it.

The needs of the many...
Sad day it is for all of you jailbreak fiends out there. The Dev Team has come out to let you all know not to expect a iPhone 3GS jailbreak solution any time soon. While they do have the software ready for prime time they are holding off on pulling the trigger to release it - for a few good reasons. The biggest reason being - Apple.
Apple is surely coming out with a 3.0.1 firmware release shortly. They need to fix ultrasn0w. They need to fix some UI issues. 3.0 is buggy and 3.0.1 is coming. We’re going to wait and see what 3.0.1 brings before figuring out the release date for our version of the jailbreak.
They also seem to be a bit worried about their exploit this time around and think Apple will definitely “fix” it rendering their software useless to people who purchase an iPhone after a fix is released.
Once the jailbreak is out, Apple will fix the iBoot-family bug we use to accomplish it. They will simply stop signing the old iBoots and only sign the fixed ones. If you bought your phone after Apple has done this, there’s nothing you can do…the jailbreak isn’t going to work for you.
So there you have it folks, all of you who are anxious for a iPhone 3GS jailbreak solution will have to exercise a bit of patience. For the full scoop head of to the Dev Teams blog.
Summary:
We can jailbreak the 3GS right now. But making our jailbreak public at this point in time would benefit relatively few people. It would in fact be detrimental to many more people than it would help. So we feel it’s best to keep our version of the jailbreak out of Apple’s sights for the time being.
Details:
If you already have a 3GS phone and have already done a full USB dump or captured your img3’s signed with your ECID, then you’re in great shape. You will always be able to jailbreak. But many people who plan on getting a 3GS do not yet have one. For instance, many people are waiting for their existing contracts to mature to the point where they get a price break on the 3GS. Many people are trying to sell their 3G before they can buy the 3GS. There are parts of the globe where you can’t even buy a 3GS yet! The reasons are varied, but they are many.
The nature of the 3GS hardware allows Apple to stop IPSWs from being usable unless you’ve already gotten the signed chunks they send to you based on your ECID (a unique chip ID). You cannot get these signed chunks without knowing your ECID, and you don’t know your ECID until you’ve bought your 3GS.
The jailbreak requires at least one signed iBoot-family img3 for your device. And that iBoot needs to have an exploitable bug. It’s an all-or-nothing deal…you either have your signed exploitable iBoot ready to use, for now and forever — always jailbreakable — or you have nothing.
Here’s the critical point, the reason why we’re delaying our version of the jailbreak: Once the jailbreak is out, Apple will fix the iBoot-family bug we use to accomplish it. They will simply stop signing the old iBoots and only sign the fixed ones. If you bought your phone after Apple has done this, there’s nothing you can do…the jailbreak isn’t going to work for you.
It is possible that Apple will find the bug we use without our handing it to them on a silver platter (via a public jailbreak). In that case, we will have delayed our jailbreak for “nothing”. But we’d rather be safe than sorry!
In the meantime, we have some remaining 3.0 jailbreak issues to investigate, including push notification. Thanks for being patient with us while we took a 3GS “timeout”!

I;ve even uninstall MSN from my PC for good. There;s no need for it anymore.

This might be a repost but..
Bell and Telus are upgrading their network and will soon support the iPhone and other 3G devices. More competition has to be good.
Apparently, Monsih confirmed a while back - Telus is not investing into GSM networks b/c it’s a thing of the past and they are developing their ver of 4G LTE and now this is happening LOL x 100.
Telus has been testing their 3G networks for some time now, it’s been showing up in some areas all over Canada when you scan for networks on your GSM units.
Thanks for the post dude
"As one of the previous posts states Apple doesn't have multi carrier deals in a single country. Combine that with an exclusivity agreement with Rogers and you don't have a chance. Although it's about time that Telus and Bell upgrade to 3.5 GSM, Roger's will be making the switch to 4.0 GSM at that same time which means that Bell and Telus will still be behind the curve."

OEM & Jailbreak Bugs
(OEM BUGS)
Icon Swaps ?Tru Phone and AIM
-Icons tends to swap other apps with these icons if you have tru phone or AIM installed
Battery Life
-Dropping faster
(Jailbreak Bugs)
Push Notification iPod Battery Drain
-After the first Push Notification comes in, once your iPod starts the battery starts draining while playing music.
Screenshot Flashback
*only seen this in email app - shows your entire multi email account and flashes back into one of them*
App badge bug
-App badge not going away, ex: beejive shows you have 4 msgs waiting, but there's none. Re-connect it and it's gone
Regardless with these minor bugs, the iPhone is ultra useless running a stock firmware. Remember this is the first ver of the jailbreak for this OS,a revised ver will come out or they will jump right into 3.1. That’s coming out very soon, everyone knows 3.0 is a bit buggy and Apple has to address that problem asap.
EDIT:
To cure this problem if you have it …
“I have had non stop issues with battery life after upgrading to the 3.0 software. 2.2 was great and never had any issues. Since 3.0 my battery life would drain so fast it was really bad and using the phone as normal was just not happening. After 5 restores even using no backups and restoring as a new phone didnt work. Well I have finally solved my battery problem and you can too!
I started with a full charge at 630pm and now at 1230am I am still at 85% with wifi on, fetch hourly, brightness 70%, location services on, checking rss feeds, downloaded two apps from app store, used google and watched youtube. And plenty of texts. Pretty solid if you ask me. So here is what I did.
1. Go to Settings app on the iPhone > General > Scroll down to "Reset" and the select the top option to "Reset All Settings" This will reset the settings and reboot.
2A. MAC - Now go into your iTunes folder - Home > Library > iTunes > iPhone Software Updates. and delete the 3.0 Firm Ware from the list.
2B PC - C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates
3. Now plug your phone and connect to iTunes. Click restore and download a FRESH copy of the 3.0FW.
4. Once downloaded DO NOT restore from a back up. Set up as a new phone an once the restore is complete, manually add your data by syncing. Again do not use a back up during this process. Just act like you are starting from scratch. (contacts, music, etc.)
Please let me know how this works for you. I was about to return my 3G for a refurb because the battery life was absolutely horrible. But this works i swear!!! Give it a try and let me know how it goes.”
EDIT2: Found what my prob was after doing this restore 2x. Whenever I first install SBSsettings and it hangs there, it messed up my unit. Finally got SBSsettings to install without the springboard hanging. If indeed it hangs or crashes your springboard, restore and start all over again.
All these steps will work 100%, my GF’s unit is totally fine and it’s the same setup as mine. Only diff, here SBSSettings worked for the install.
Good Luck

iPhone OS 3.1 released to developers
We just got word from a couple tipsters telling us that Apple has posted iPhone SDK 3.1 as well as iPhone OS 3.1 for developers.
Story developing…
*******^^^^^^ Just as I said above, 3.1 is coming*******
Early word from TiPb commenters and the Twitter show some new iPhone 3.1 features found already:
Non-destructive video editing means trimming a clip no longer saves over the original video but gives you the option to “Save as copy…”
Voice Control now works over Bluetooth
iPhone vibrates when moving icons
Updated AT&T profile to 4.2
Updated modem firmware to 5.08.01
Behind the scenes changes abound as well:
Improvements to OpenGL and Quartz.
APIs to allow third party apps to access videos and edit them.
Update: Yes, MMS buttons appear to be back for AT&T users, but as with early iphone 3.0 Betas, they’re non-functional on standard devices. Whether they survive to the official release this time (they were removed in 3.0 Beta 5), who knows?
Jer
Made the switch. Maaaaaan it feels great. Did some theming / SSHing and I'm really REALLY happy with it.
