I got my accessory package from Rogers yesterday and I'm pretty pleased for the price...
The 3 Griffin screen protectors, John, are non glare and they do surround the home button. They also come with a cleaning cloth. I'll let you guys know how they go on when I try one on...
The Plantronics Bluetooth earpiece is pretty good. It's basic. You can only answer, end and initiate a redial from the earpiece button. My wife said she heard me perfectly well although the volume is a little weak...
The Griffin case is ok I suppose. It's more plasticky than the free one I got from Apple. It's also in two pieces so I'm gonna put that one away as a back-up or I'll just give it away...
All in all, it's a pretty great deal for $20. It's also great that you can order any of the three individually for the same prices.. |
RE: the SP, they all come with the cloth to clean before installing.
It's a great deal for all those items for $20.

iPhone’s personal hotspot will only support 3 connections over Wi-Fi

To Apple’s credit: it has consistently said that its Personal Hotspot feature would “support five connections.” It did this without ever actually specifying what type of connections those were. According to support documentation on the iPhone maker’s website, those utilizing the Personal Hotspot feature in iOS 4.3 will be allowed to share their phone’s internet connection with up to five devices, however, only three of them can be over Wi-Fi. Yes, it seems the other two connections will have to be made using Bluetooth and USB respectively. Most of the tech world assumed — present company included — that the five connected devices in question would all be suckling from the iPhone’s data connection via Wi-Fi. Which is, obviously, not the case. We can’t say we remember the last time (if there ever was a time) that we had five devices connected to a cellular hotspot device, but that’s just us. Is this a deal breaker for anyone?

DroidDream virus hits 50+ apps on Android Marketplace

Following on from earlier problems, it seems that Android has been hit by another security issue. There are new reports of over 50 Android Marketplace applications containing malicious code. Although the apps have now been removed, over 200,000 people downloaded them. They were copies of already popular programs, such as games that had been repackaged to include the new code.
The suspect apps were discovered by Reddit user Lompolo who, after some investigation, found that the authors didn't match. He looked at a game which allowed users to play guitar on their handsets, and noticed that although the new version retained the same functionality of the original, it contained the virus code hidden within the application. Lompolo originally found 21 apps, but he was soon surpassed by Android Police who, after an in depth investigation, found a total of over 50.
Once a virus, named DroidDream, containing application is installed, the users sensitive data and IMEI is sent a remote server. The code also allows the author to install or remove anything from the target device. Google has yet to issue a formal statement but they claimed to have deleted three developer accounts used by the creator of the apps.
Google has a tool that can recall and uninstall rogue applications all Android devices, however there are no reports of the California company doing so.
"...this remote kill switch will not remove any other code that may have been dropped onto the device as a result of the initial infection," reported Trend Micro Senior Security Advisor Rik Ferguson. He went on to advise people not to remove the applications but to instead get consider getting a new handset or reinstalling the operating system.

Serious Warning for Preserving Basebands
Did some testing today and found some serious stuff with the Apple's internal Baseband checker.
iOS 4.3 w/ Baseband preserved @ 03.10.01
A)Restore - not possible
B)Downgrade - not possible
Only way to get out of this, is to mod the host file and allowing the baseband to upgrade to the "MOST" recent iOS ver that's assigned by Apple.
Now, the Dev Team confirmed the unlock is found for 04.10.01 ... but think about the future when the unlocks are not ready and you have to restore whatever ver?
In the past you have a tiny window to get out of this by downgrading and then kick it out of recboot. Not anymore! I've tried all the softwares and nothing can be done.
In short form, downgrading is not possible anymore. |

I've got bad news for those who have checked out the website of my favorite hacker-turned-rapper, George "Geohot" Hotz, at any point between January 2009 and now: Sony has been granted the right to acquire your IP addresses.

Oh .... thanks for the heads up.
Judge Granted Sony To Retrieve IP Adresses For Geohot’s Site

Federal magistrate is granting Sony the right to acquire the internet IP addresses of anybody who has visited PlayStation 3 hacker George Hotz’s website from January of 2009 to the present.
Thursday’s decision by Magistrate Joseph Spero to allow Sony to subpoena Hotz’s web provider (.pdf) raises a host of web-privacy concerns.
Respected for his iPhone hacks and now the PlayStation 3 jailbreak, Hotz is accused of breaching the Digital Millennium Copyright Act and other laws after he published an encryption key and software tools on his website that allow Playstation owners to gain complete control of their consoles from the firmware on up.
Sony also won subpoenas (.pdf) for data from YouTube and Google, as part of its lawsuit against the 21-year-old New Jersey hacker, as well as Twitter account data linked to Hotz, who goes by the handle GeoHot.
Bluehost maintains Hotz’s geohot.com site. The approved subpoena requires the company to turn over “documents reproducing all server logs, IP address logs, account information, account access records and application or registration forms” tied to Hotz’s hosting. The Bluehost subpoena also demands “any other identifying information corresponding to persons or computers who have accessed or downloaded files hosted using your service and associated” with the www.geohot.com website, including but not limited to the “geohot.com/jailbreak.zip file.”
Sony told Spero, a San Francisco magistrate, that it needed the information for at least two reasons.
One is to prove the “defendant’s distribution” of the hack. The other involves a jurisdictional argument over whether Sony must sue Hotz in his home state of New Jersey rather than in San Francisco, which Sony would prefer. Sony said the server logs would demonstrate that many of those who downloaded Hotz’s hack reside in Northern California — thus making San Francisco a proper venue for the case.
The DMCA prohibits the trafficking of so-called “circumvention devices” designed to crack copy-protection schemes. The law does not require Sony to prove that Hotz received payment for the hack, which was designed to allow PlayStation 3 owners the ability to run home-brewed software or alternative operating systems like Linux. It builds on a series of earlier jailbreaks that unlocked less protected levels of the PlayStation’s authentication process.
Jailbreaking a console is also a prerequisite to running pirated copies of games, which Sony emphasizes in its lawsuit.
“I think the these subpoenas, the information they seek, is inappropriate,” said Corynne McSherry, a staff attorney with the Electronic Frontier Foundation. In a letter to Magistrate Spero, she termed the subpoenas “overly broad.” (.pdf)
The judge also signed off on a Google subpoena seeking the logs for Hotz’s Blogger.com blog, geohot.ps3.blogspot.com.
A YouTube subpoena, also approved, seeks information connected to the “geohot” account that displayed a video of the hack being used: “Jailbroken PS3 3.55 with Homebrew.” The subpoena demands data to identify who watched the video and “documents reproducing all records or usernames and IP addresses that have posted or published comments in response to the video.”
A fourth subpoena is directed at Twitter, demanding the disclosure of all of Hotz’s tweets, and “documents sufficient to identify all names, addresses, and telephone numbers associated with the Twitter account.”
Sony has threatened to sue anybody who posts the hacking tools or the encryption key. It is seeking unspecified damages from Hotz.
A hearing on whether Hotz will be tried in San Francisco or New Jersey is set for next month in San Francisco federal court. |
