It's about Apple being greedy, this is the main reason why you gotta jailbreak they dont make money on the units, only through the app store.
Bright side of things, if more units are sold there will be even more software support.
But hey ... Blackberry would do the same if they had this chance too.

iPhone owners: what software are you using to convert video files like .avi, .mpg, .wmv to formats like .mp4 for the iPhone? Or to .3gp for other phones?
I've got an iPod Touch and recently tried the VIO software from thepiratebay.com - works fine with .mpg input file but it gets hung with .wmv input. I used VIO to make .mp4 and .3gp files.
Impressed with the quality of some converted videos on the iPod Touch, although I had to tweak the VIO parameters to get best video & audio. But I got a scare after I converted some videos with VIO, got some kinda virus on my XP computer (it was trying to turn off the firewall) - now removed - probably from another source, a Torrent info page maybe.

Okay I'm finally admitting that i need help with my iphone...
How the hell do you get ringtones?!?!?! I've added them on my "ipod" but i can't seem to select it as a ringtone... why?
If i need to directly download them from the itunes store (from my phone), i can't do that either cuz it says that i need to be connected to a wi-fi network... well I'm not.
Can i just download them from my itunes store from my computer, then transfer them as a ringtone to my phone?!?!
So unbelievable confusing!!

CUSTOM RINGTONES ON THE IPHONE (Without Jailbreaking)
You can also use www.zedge.net and make sure your settings is for the iPhone. The format will be downloaded as .m4r. I personaly like making my own ringtone from zedge ... only from mp3 format. You never know when you need it for SMS ALERT or a future device other then the iPhone.

Question: I have the blackberry curve, and my internet AND internet icon have suddenly dissappeared. Anyone ever dealt with this?

Update 3: Now to explain the above screenshot. The soft unlock has undergone many changes in the last two days. The most significant one: The soft unlock will now be only for baseband 02.28.00 (the most recent baseband). Yes we’ve been advising everyone to avoid updating their basebands, and in general that will always be the best policy. Not every baseband version is guaranteed to have a hole through which we can inject the unlock.
Update 4: (a) the yellowsn0w cydia package will be available as soon as our devteam member in charge of the repo wakes up to fix a file permission error. (b) once it’s out, those users with sims that have apps and other menus on them will need to do that extra step we’ve been talking about. They’ll need to pull and reinsert the sim once after rebooting the phone to engage the unlock. Even though it’s needed only once per boot, it’s still a nuisance and we’ll be fixing that asap. (c) you’ll know if you fall into that “extra step” category if your carrier doesn’t show up within about 10 seconds of the slide to unlock screen. (d) yes it really is for baseband 02.28.00. That means everyone can use it now! (e) happy new year!

check to see that you didn't move the icons to a folder
otherwise, pressing alt+back will give you shortcuts to other apps, the browser should be there
