So kind of off topic but still relevant...

I watched Machete today...

AWESOME BTW!!!

One thing that I notice was the amount of Apple product placement in the flik...

I didnt think that Apple would put their name in it but they were all over the place...

Anyway...

Go watch... must see...

If you go over to Apple's UK site, you're sure of a big surprise: they're listing the iOS 4.1 software update as being released September 8th. The US site still says "coming soon." [Apple UK] More_»

iOS browsing is bigger than Android (6x) and Linux says NetApps

Apple’s iOS has become the third most popular platform on the Internet with marketshare that’s nealry six times larger than Android. Indeed, iOS is bigger than Linux, says Net Applications.

Collectively the devices that run iOS — the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad — accounted for 1.1 per cent of all hardware on the Internet last month. Windows and Mac OS were the first and second place OS’ used on the net, with 91.3 per cent and 5 per cent, respectively.

“It’s something to take note of when a mobile operating system passes something that’s been around forever,” said Vince Vizzaccaro, a Net Applications vice president, talking about iOS overtaking Linux. “Mobile’s growth curve is strong and mobile is becoming quite a phenomenon on the Internet.”

Android devices made up just 0.2 per cent of the operating systems that powered browsers Net Applications tracked last month. “Whatever the sales are, we’re seeing iOS totally dominate the market on the Web,” Vizzaccaro said. “iOS has nearly a 6:1 advantage over Android.”

(Speaking of 4.1; if you're not into jailbreaking, just download the GM build and there's no need to wait for the public release. The GM build is the final ver.)

Just restored my 3G to 4.1 ;)
Seems to be a lot faster than before.
But I'm still getting Captivate as soon as it comes out.
Screw you, apple.

Just a word of warning to everyone installing iOS4.1 - although people might be saying that 8B117 is the final build, the same thing was said about 8A293 (which was iOS4.0) and the GM (Gold Master) is completely different from the release build - even though they share the same build number.

Food for thought - Install 8B117 if you absolutely have to, just make sure to do a restore using the release build that'll roll out in the following week.

Great tip Jer! I've always update to final ver, just to finalize everything and confirm all the functions.

The only thing I've caught so far in the GM build was Game Centre, if you hit get games ... It redirects you to Apple's page to download iTunes. I assume it should load the AppStore app or maybe this page that's redirects you is something Apple planing to launch next week.

Who knows, only time can tell from here ...

I believe 4.0 GM build vs final, game centre was removed and multitasking animation got changed a little.

Dev Team confirms progress for 4.1 has started

So far, Dev Team hasn’t provided an update on jailbreaking iOS 4.1 though they had mentioned that not releasing a jailbreak for iOS 4.0.2 was a "winning move” and had indicated that they are working on a jailbreak for iOS 4.1.

iWatch

Remember El Steve mentioning that one of the board members would use their new nano as an iWatch? Remember Seth’s genius thoughts? Well the above completes it all.

Does the iPod touch have the same screen as the IP4?

When looking at the video above (@15 seconds – for Flashless), it seems that the iPod touch 4th generation screen doesn’t have the same wide angle viewing as the iPhone 4 next to it. This could just be our eyes playing tricks on us (or even the camera) but Apple isn’t clear in the iPod touch literature that the screen is indeed IPS.

Here’s a still. Compare the blacks and the whites at an angle:

There was a bunch of the stuff in the codebase that changed too, this is why I recommend that consumers stick to consumer unless you're a Dev and know how to debug your own stuff.

Bear in mind Robbers Wireless has about four times the subscribers and Bellus etc. use only an HSPA network, so if you step out of that coverage (which is frequent if you're on highways etc) you can't use EDGE or GPRS. Obviously you're going to see a lot less sold on their networks.

Those who know use 3G devices on (sadly) the only capable network.

Doesn't excuse the ty supply, but that's as much Apple's doing as anyone's. Supply throttling is a bitch.
