No, Apple did not impersonate police: SFPD assisted in search for iPhone 5

Earlier today, SF Weekly reported that a Bernan Heights man claimed Apple posed as police officers to search his house for the missing iPhone 5. SFWeekly is now reporting that their earlier report had some incorrect points, and that the San Francisco Police Department did assist Apple.
Contradicting past statements that no records exist of police involvement in the search for the lost prototype, San Francisco Police Department spokesman Lt. Troy Dangerfield now tells SF Weekly that “three or four” SFPD officers accompanied two Apple security officials in an unusual search of a Bernal Heights man’s home.
Four plain clothed police officers came to the house with two Apple security guards. During the search inside the home, the four police officers stood outside while the Apple security guards were inside. What is odd is that the police report wasn’t filed as such. We’re sure more is going to come out in terms of this case. |

RIM shareholder says “the status quo is not acceptable”, urges Directors to look at “potential sale of the Company”

Research In Motion is currently going through a self proclaimed transition period and on September 16th execs will announce their Q2 fiscal 2011 results. This is when we’ll truly see the impact from the recent job cuts and sales numbers of the newly released BlackBerry 7 devices, namely the Bold 9900, Torch 9810 and 9860. After their disappointing Q1 results the RIM stock fell sharpy in value (to the tune of 50%) and some shareholders bailed by selling their stock.
Today, the stock is sitting at $30.12 and another RIM shareholder has become incredibly vocal. Jaguar Financial Corporation “on behalf of itself and other supportive shareholders” sent out a press release that requests RIM directors to bring the company back to life and look “all options” that include “a potential sale of the Company or a monetization of the RIM patent portfolio by a spin-out to RIM shareholders”.
It’s not known how many shares Jaguar owns of RIM but they state in their company description that they are a “Canadian merchant bank which invests in underperforming, undervalued or unappreciated companies and acts as a catalyst to create value”. Perhaps this is way to further drag down the stock so they’ll make more money. The release also stated that RIM has fallen in market share to Apple’s iPhone and Google’s Android phones, plus have lost key employees and lack innovation. In addition, Jaguar took aim at both co-CEO’s and stated that “Mr. James Balsillie and Mr. Mike Lazaridis as Co-Chief Executive Officers and Co-Chairmen of the Company, is ineffective and requires meaningful change”. So Jaguar is basically saying the company as a whole needs a change.
However, Vic Alboini, Chairman and CEO of Jaguar, said “The status quo is not acceptable, the Company cannot sit still. It is time for transformational change. The Directors need to seize the reins to maximize shareholder value before more market value is lost.” |

Rogers wants to start bank

Rogers Communications Inc. has filed papers with the federal government to start a bank.
The telecom giant intends to apply to the Minister of Finance to incorporate under Canada's Bank Act.
The bank will carry on business in Canada under the name of Rogers Bank in English and Banque Rogers in French. Its head office will be located in Toronto.
The company did not immediately respond to a request for comment by CBC News.
It's believed the bank would likely primarily deal in credit and mobile payment services, as opposed to bricks and mortar bank branches that take traditional savings and loan accounts.
A number of large Canadian retailers including Wal-Mart, Sears, HBC and Canadian Tire have similar separate finance divisions which — while hugely profitable — are essentially extensions of the core business.

Shareholder calls for RIM to sell itself or its patents, in critical open letter

Things just keep getting bleaker for RIM. With its revenues stagnating and smartphone market share dwindling, the BlackBerry maker is now facing new financial pressure from Jaguar Financial Group -- a Canadian merchant bank and RIM shareholder that's calling upon the company to do one of two rather unpleasant things: sell itself, or sell its patent portfolio. In an open letter to RIM's board of directors, Jaguar CEO Vic Alboni criticized the manufacturer for failing to "inspire consumer enthusiasm" for its products, and for bringing its devices to market too late. And, as share prices continue to drop, Alboni thinks it's time to make a change:
The status quo is not acceptable, the company cannot sit still. It is time for transformational change. The directors need to seize the reins to maximize shareholder value before more market value is lost.
Jaguar didn't specify the size of its RIM stake, but claimed to be calling for upheaval on behalf of "other supportive shareholders" who, in total, hold less than five percent of the company. The Ontario-based firm is hoping that a new line of QNX-based smartphones will curtail its slump, but Alboni doesn't sound so optimistic. "You cannot put all your eggs in one basket," he told Bloomberg. "The board should be saying, 'What if these products don't pan out?' You don't want RIM to turn into another Nortel." A RIM spokeswoman, meanwhile, declined to comment on the letter. Hit up the source link below to read it for yourself.

Jaguars Holdings are split across 8 companies, and their total holdings are apparently sub $10,000,000.
Must be a slow Apple news day, so lets just bash RIM instead?
Oh, and T-mobile and Sprint in the States have already sold out of their 9900 stock, and Rogers can barely keep up. This RIM fear mongering (not here specifically, but amongst the industry in general) is pretty ridiculous imo. |

RIM bashing is very trendy these days, seems like a lot of people want them or are predicting for them to be the next Nokia. I'm always seeing news articles pop up with negativity on the company in one form or another.
The 9900 and QNX are both a step in the right direction. I think this company is far from dead and is definitely making appropriate steps with their future products but definitely needs to hurry the hell up in releasing them with no bugs. None of the other manufacturers are really comparable at the moment though so who knows if it's even possible to release devices as quick as the other guys. They either piggyback Android and just have to customize an already existing OS, or with Apple they're releasing less than 1 model per year. Maybe RIMs 4+ models and consequent OS updates are whats holding it back... |

Hey guys, what games has everyone been liking lately? I personally like games that are similar to Angry Birds like Siege Hero and Bunny Shooter.
Any other recommendations? |

Even though its not like Angry Birds, Jetpack Joyride looks amazing and I'll buy it once it hits 1000+ reviews w/ 5 stars rating.
It's one of my rules I stick with when comes to buying games now. |
