Telus makes it simple to terminate contracts, replace your feature phone

Taking a page from its own playbook, Telus Mobility has extended its Clear and Simple Device Upgrade program to the logical conclusion of contract termination. Now, if a customer chooses to cancel their service, they must pay only a $50 administrative fee and the remaining portion of their phone's subsidy -- it could still result in a lot of loonies, but the amount decreases monthly according to a fixed schedule. Similar to Rogers, Telus offers its customers early upgrades by allowing them to pay this unrecovered subsidy and commit to a new contract. To make the process even easier (and more tempting), the carrier is now including this magical number with its monthly bills. So, as you dream of getting cozy with a new Nexus S or Optimus Black -- or ditching the Telus network -- just follow the break for the PR.
(Rogers are you listening??? Even Telus shifted over) |

That's a fantastic and transparent program. I'm willing to bet the winds of change force Rogers to make some adjustments to stay competitive - after all, it's bad business to stick out for the wrong reasons. |

Maybe bias was the wrong word, but it paints an overly grim undertone when in reality their layoffs are a healthy move. |
Absolutely, I think the 'trouble' at RIM is just speculators talking in the media. As soon as the Torch came out, that is all I saw on the Go Train in the morning.
Every company has a growth period where they hire too many people, and don't care because the money is just flowing in faster than they can count. Now they are pruning to be more efficient, which is great.
Layoffs are not always bad for a company, this isn't the 90's of 'corporate down sizing'. |

Girl Offers to Sell Her Virginity for an iPhone 4

The less fortunate in China are continuing to take extreme measures in their attempt to obtain expensive Apple products, according to a Korean Herald report.
Biznewschina reported that a female jiulinghou, referring to those born during the 90’s, tweeted on Weibo (Chinese version of Twitter) that it is her "dream to own a iPhone4 but her father won’t let her get one." She then decided to sleep with someone in exchange for the mobile device.
The Guangdong teen has posted a picture of herself along with other basic personal information saying she is willing to "sell" her virginity to anyone that buys her a iPhone 4.
Recently, a 17 year old boy from Huaishan City sold his kidney for 22,000 Yuan (about $3,400) and used the money to purchase an iPad.
These reports are disturbing to say the least.
(I would donate my IP4 to her, it's heartbreaking to see this) |

SUPER HAPPY to see Newsrack, my RSS feed app updated and running on iOS5. I was force to use Pulse and it was not fun, that app made my IP4 feel like a first gen iPhone.
Now I can really see how things run on iOS5 B1.

a) this is not heart breaking at all. She isn't going through some kind of real hardship, she wants a ing phone for god sakes. This isn't a real problem. This is a simple matter of a teen not knowing the consequences of her actions.
b) she should hold out for the iphone5.
c) she could get a lot more than $700 for her virginity. |

Beauty commentary, let me add mine for trolling purposes:

-She's probly actually quite promiscuous as all virgins I could imagine would never offer something they don't even understand. I bet she's lost her virginity multiple times for various trinkets. Good on her for scamming the creepy guys out there. Besides, by bartering in exchange for sex she avoids the lofty income taxes she could have suffered if doing cash transactions. I'd totally hire someone with this kind of business savvy.
b) she should hold out for the iphone5.
-Or dare I say Android, the hardware on some of the recent models is :eyes:. But at least she hasn't gone all RIM or Nokia on us.
c) she could get a lot more than $700 for her virginity.
-True, she should be at least requesting a nice docking station, case, extra charger, maybe even an iTunes gift card. And she hasn't allowed any room for lowballers. You just KNOW some guy is gonna come in and offer a used 3Gs or something. |

Computer hacker pleads guilty to hacking AT&T’s network
The WSJ reports:
A computer hacker admitted Thursday to writing code that was used to breach AT&T Inc.’s servers last year and gather email addresses and other personal information of about 120,000 users of Apple Inc.’s iPad.
They then gave the list of names (The email addresses they accessed included those of corporate chiefs, U.S. government officials and Hollywood moguls) to a media outlet to prove how shoddy AT&T’s protection of user data was.
Daniel Spitler, 26 years old, a computer hacker from San Francisco, pleaded guilty to identity theft and conspiracy to gain unauthorized access to computers. He faces up to five years in prison on each count. Sentencing is set for Sept. 28. |

Rogers releases two Unlimited U.S. Text Message plans

A couple weeks back Rogers posted a “coming soon” notice on their site regarding a new $10 Unlimited U.S. text message package. Today, this has been released along with a new $50 Unlimited offering.
Here are the details: The $10 Unlimited U.S. Roaming Text Messaging Pass gives you Unlimited sent/received texts in States, Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. The fine print states that this plan “is only valid for 2 days: from 12:00am EST on the purchase date to 11:59pm EST the following day”. The $50 U.S. Roaming Text Messaging Pass allows Unlimited sent/received texts but Rogers says it “expires one month after the date of purchase”. |
