I guess I can ask my questions here.:p OK so I got my iphone 3gs about 2 weeks ago, I've been doing my research on jail breaking my phone. I hear different things from people when it comes to this. I guess my real questions is is it worth the risk? whats the worst that can happen? is it true that this will void my warranty from Apple? also aside from getting all the free Apps do I get anything else once I have my phone jail broken?
Thanks :D |

No risk at all
Voids your warrenty if you show up @ the Apple Store in that state. All you do is restore it as a new unit and your warrenty is valid again.
Jailbreaking is giving you the freedom of whatever you should of been able to do in the first place. Cracked apps is nice, but that's not the main reason to do this.
Your 3GS has the new bootrom; once you reboot it, it will be in DFU mode and will need to re-apply the jailbreak. Its a pain in the ass, but still worth it tbh. |

hmm didn't know that. speaking of warranty, do I only have one year from Telus or something? or is it straight from Apple directly?

I see. What's the main reason then?:p

Another question. Is it true the white iphone 3gs have more issues?
I got mine about 2 weeks ago and about a week after my speakers just stopped working (no sound at all) and then it came back on its own. Also the touch doesn't really work at all sometimes. Anyone know if I can still exchange it through Telus? or do I have to take it back to the Apple store?
p.s. my phone isn't Jailbroken. |

I would exchange it right away!!! Apple stands by its warranty 100%. If you are not satisfied (especially within the 14 day period) just exchange it for a new one. If you are passed the 14-day period then they will just exchange the unit for a replacement unit. The replacement units are refurbs. Make sure you inspect the refurb up and down! Its like playing russian roulette.
I got tired of getting ty refurbs with defects so I called Apple and dealt with them directly. They shipped out a Brand New phone to me. However, this is only after if you've exchanged your phone more than 3 times.
You shouldn't have any of these problems with your iPhone! The speaker issue and the touch screen response are common issues.
So make sure you look for:
- Light leak from the side of the phones (which can later result in dust getting under the screen)
- Dust under the screen
- Make sure the screen is flush, swipe your thumb left to right making sure the edges are smooth
- Check for Dead Pixels
- Test the touch screen response by using the calculator
That's all I can think of for now
I know that sounds picky but if we are paying premium price for a unit then that unit should be without defects. |

A)Apple
B)If your main reason of jailbreaking is cracked apps, you shouldn't be jailbreaking then. You'll soon find out what Freedom I'm talking about.
You have a faulty unit, go get a new one from Apple |

ok I just checked my receipt and my purchase day is from 23 days ago. I guess I have to go to Apple?

yeah I'm usually good at getting new for free. :P I'll wait and see what Telus says and go from there.

Speaking of apps, I wonder how much the AppStore is making today?
Christmas Day last year, the sales were in the millions. |
