For the massive wait the phone is a let down. If this was released in the spring it might be fair, more equivalent to the 3G going to the 3GS.
One thing to mention though is that up until this iPhone release they've usually been at the top or very well near the top of the smartphone market in terms of specs. This model however falls a decent amount short of some of the latest Android models out there which are already doing dual core 1.5ghz. I believe the rumour is the Galaxy S3 will even be a quad core and released next March or so?
The cloud is a huge deal and massive but for someone like myself the benefits are meh. It's good they did it and surely it will push the smart phone market further but I don't think it makes up for the delay and specs on the latest iPhone.

I feel the same way about this.
I just don't understand this hugely hyped manufacturer push for cloud based services. Don't get me wrong, I see the clear benefits for specific applications, but I just don't get what all the hype/fuss is about.

The upgrades were really in the OS. They are pushing the cloud hard; IMO thats a major upgrade in itself.
I'm a systems admin, and the idea of launching a new billion dollar data center, with 100+ million devices connecting to it, is just scary. What an incredible thing to 'turn on'.
I'm really interested to see how many bugs surface with that type of activation rate.
I get that but I'm happy w my 4 for now, glad they didn't upgrade to a completely revised iphone. Gives me more time until another HUP or at least until my contract expires and see if I want to stay w Rogers or even w the iphone 4.

Part of it is real innovation, but really it is revenue growth.
Every public company needs to grow revenue year over year to appease its board and share holders. Apps and phone sales are now a known commodity, they needed something else.
All these 'cloud' services are a way of getting another monthly fee out of you. Software and support contracts are big in the enterprise game, and it feels like it is making its way over to the consumers as well.
Hell, you can already have access to all your music, videos, and pics from a home computer. The iPhone has been able to do that for years. Install winamp remote, or Orb player...poof...no monthly fee, and you have your own 'cloud'.
I run Ampache at home so I can stream all my music over the net. No fees, no nothing. Sure it takes a bit of setup, but things like Orb don't, they just work.

Well the keynote is all done and presented, this iPhone launch had the most rumours I’ve ever seen in history, even down to the final hours.
The only IP5 rumour that got me was the Sprint exclusive deal that was reported from WSJ, it honestly had me 60% believing it and it would be something Sprint would do. Since they spend billions on a Nascar team and bought Nextel for $36 billion, they do need Apple’s help to gain more subscribers.
The keynote wasn’t disappointing for me, since the IP5 was supposed to be heading over to Sprint and we wouldn’t get our hands on it anyways, if this was true. Otherwise all the leaked parts, specs and design since last August had been on par and the only one minor rumour that let me down for the 4S was HSPA+ speeds, which was reported 21mbps. Even I’ve guessed the right speed last year @ 14.4mbps. Redesign wise; Apple doesn’t roll this way for redesign, 1st gen device to 2nd gen will get revamped like the iPhone and the iPad. Otherwise, it takes about 2 generations for the redesign to take place and like I said before, the IP4 housing took some serious R&D to come up with something like that. I honestly, love it and build quality on it is indeed the best I’ve seen and used.
On to the IP4S specs, it’s really nice to see the internal parts ramped up like that and the speeds from the recent benchmark test do show how fast the iPad2 out powers the rest of the manufactures by 7x-2x and the camera is damn nice.
The question of “is it worth updating from the IP4 to the IP4S?” The answer; yes & no, it all depends on what you have and what you plan to use it for. For users who can HUP @ subsidized pricing without adding any fees, indeed the HUP is well worth it. For the losers like us; who have unfair carrier HUP policies and contract time lines, it’s kinda not worth it IMO. It would be very nice to have it, but you’ll only notice the camera and processing time on intense graphical games, like Infinite Blade 2 and others who use the unreal engines. Now retail pricing is a diff story; if you have the cash and you don’t mind forking out $1005.70 for 64GB ver, then go for it. For my personal use of Siri, I’ve never used it before nor have I even used any type of voice command functions on any of my phones and I doubt I would be using it much. It will come in handy for sure, but it's not gonna make me abuse it all the time.
There’s not much to explain about iOS 5 and iCloud from me, you guys seen all my screenshots I’ve posted, it’s gonna be nice to load the GM build when I get home.

Thing is, Apple could drop this right now and actually release the iPhone 5 in like 3-6 months to throw people off base. Similar to what they did with the iPad and iPad 2.
Count the iPhone 4S as a filler. They just want to see what Google-Samsung has up their sleeve next week, thats my feeling on the situation.
Only thing that I like about the new iPhone, is Siri. It for sure puts Google voice-search to shame.
I still would like to see a comparison between the iPhone 4 vs. iPhone 4S vs. Galaxy S2 LTE HD.

I'll be interested to see the actual usability of Siri in real life.
It all looks quite good in the video, but voice technology like this has been around a long long time now and its never really taken off. Unless it really is unique and a rethink, I think it may just end up seeming gimmicky.

Siri will probably run quite well but you will have to be connected to the internet constantly for it to work ;)
