Gamecenter gets reset and officially tossed from iPhone 3G

If you are an iOS developer, you better go chase your Gamecenter username back down pretty quick because Apple reset all Gameceter IDs without any warning this morning. They also clarified their intentions on putting the service on 2nd generation iPods but not on the slightly slower iPhone 3Gs.
That means Gamecenter via iOS 4.1 are coming via Software Update pretty soon here. |

Don't jump the gun yet, let's see what happens when it comes out.
So far 95% of Apple's reasons are the turth, I don't like to admit TBH.
HDR Photo on the 3GS may not work due to hardware issues, could be the lens or it's not fast enough. For example, i know for a fact iMovie can't be runned on the 3GS. It takes a tons of resources and after a while (approx 30 mins of usage) it does get slow on the IP4.
We'll see what happens when everything is ready for the public. |
The camera on my 3GS is garbage to me. ing terrible in lower light conditions too. Also for any editing I use Sony Vegas Pro 9, so in my case the mobile video editor is not needed.
I can still wait. |

My 2G actually did better low-light pictures than my 3GS... go figure. |

Apple to open 2 new retail locations this weekend: Newmarket, Ontario and Richmond B.C.

Apple will be opening 2 new stores in Canada this Saturday. One will be located in Richmond B.C. and the other in Newmarket, Ontario. The Richmond B.C. location will be called “Richmond Centre” and is located at 6551 No. 3 Road, with the Newmarket store at the Upper Canada Mall at 17600 Yonge Street. The doors will open at 9:30am and as usual first 1,000 visitors will be given a Apple t-shirt. For those wanting an iPhone 4 this is a good place to possibly get one as there will apparently be stock available, plus all sorts of new products such as the iPod, iPad, laptops etc.
Apple announced in June that 5 additional stores will be opened in Canada this year, bringing the total to 21 retail locations. The other 3 will be located in Quebec City, Calgary (Chinook Centre) and Edmonton (Southgate).

iOS 4.1 bootrom exploit found, new jailbreak method on the way

There is some good news for users who want to jailbreak iOS 4.1.
iPhone hacker pod2g of the Chronic Dev Team has just announced that he has discovered a new bootrom based exploit.
The new exploit could help in jailbreaking iOS 4.1 that was released by Apple earlier today.
pod2g announced the discovery of the new exploit via the following tweet:
iPhone 4G iBSS 4.0.1: iv=91f94e5d726a2d2f2c7ffad58d4f3b77 key=d05c3c40db40e738926f811b8b1314038d26096c410246 1698a49098c47a3fe6
and later confirmed that it also worked on iOS 4.1:
Works on 4.1 (!) iBSS iv=c2c5416472e5a0d6f0a25a123d5a2b1c key=1fbc7dcafaec21a150a51eb0eb99367550e24a077b128831b28c065e61f894a0
iPhone Dev Team confirmed it and reiterated that users who want to jailbreak and unlock their iPhone should avoid upgrading to iOS 4.1:
congrats to @pod2g for the latest exploit and also @p0sixninja who have been trying for months.
Crazy timing that @pod2g got latest exploit just as 4.1 went public (lots of work left…keep away from 4.1 for now!)
A bootrom exploit is not like the userland exploit used by Comex in JailbreakMe. A bootrom exploit is a low level exploit that can’t be fixed by Apple with a software update like it did with iOS 4.0.2 to patch the security hole used by JailbreakMe.
Apple can prevent jailbreaking by releasing devices with a new bootrom that patches the exploit, but Apple won’t be able to stop users from jailbreaking devices with the older bootrom.
However, as iPhone Dev team has pointed out don’t expect tools to jailbreak iOS 4.1 using this exploit anytime soon as there is lot of work still to be done to release a tool to users.
OH , here we go again! Dev Team better becareful about this ... releasing it too soon will make Apple change the IP4's bootrom and history is gonna repeat itself. Let's hope the new bootrom isn't coming w/ the White IP4 |
