The WORST possible time ever for my iPhone 2G to brick itself. Itès stuck at the plug/911 only logo.
I run redsnow 8, load iPhone1,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw, by bins, press the button sequence successfully, then it gets stuck at "downloading jailbreak data", and it never gets to the pineapple part.
Everything I tried on http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&q...&meta=&aq=f&oq= doesn't help.
I even tried the old quickpwn, but no avail.
My last resort is getting it unlocked and jailbroken for $30 in Vegas tomorrow, but can anyone help here? |
How do you keep bricking that 1st gen? This is round 2 I think.
I have no clue w/ your problem, never had a 1st gen. Aren't you suppose to use a custom ipsw?
IMO, start using YouTube guides ... YouTube w/ Google is better then any college and university. Learned so much in the past, with everything. |

John is SO right, those tutorials will save your ass.
Make sure you follow the correct instructions to put your device into DFU mode (which it seems to be doing), and KEEP trying - I remember getting stuck a few times while performing the Jailbreak using Redsn0w 0.8. It eventually worked, just keep at it! |

From what I've read, Apple has never cared about the Baseband for the 1st gens, don't think they've ever been updated.
"iPhone 2G (1st Generation)
Use PwnageTool to do the magic and then restore with iTunes using your newly created .ipsw ‘nuff said, you don’t need to worry about anything, the baseband will be unlocked, the phone jailbroken"

Look for a custom IPSW and do a shift + restore <--- hackactivated, jailbroken and unlockable |

The thing is I can't restore with itunes, since it needs an activated SIM, which means AT&T. I have the SIM, tried it, but can't get to the restore.... yeah I tried it.
It is somewhat of a drawback being in Canada and using a US phone.
I NEED my wifi internet while in Vegas. I done so many printouts in the meantime tonight.
I got to ther pineapple before, just can't get there this time.
I decided to re-load it this afternoon, because I loaded a hundred or so mp3s on it, and then suddenly some of my apps just couldn't load. Theu turned on, but shut down after their splash screens. SO I figured might as well relad after, hard-reseting a couple of times. |

It has nothing to do w/ you having a US iPhone, it's about you not reading and following instructions properly. Who's talking about a "normal" restore when they (Dev Team) stated you need to do a restore /w a custom IPSW.
Go hunt down a custom 3.0.1 IPSW for your 1st gen (tons of them on the web) and do the shift + restore. Took me less then 10 mins to figure out your problem and tbh, it's nothing to do with exp or anything ... it's about reading things properly. |

I have that and tried all that Johnny, I can't get to to that part of ituness... it keeps asking me to a) with the AT&T sim chip to activate it, of B) says it's an invalid SIM chip with my rogers one, or c) insert a SIM chip when empty. |

I've done this method for afew iPhone3Gs. AT&T, O2 and even mine which was running on a custom ipsw from AT&T. Once everything is loaded the phone has a normal pop up screen stating it's been activated & jailbroken. No need for qickpwn, pwnagetool or redsnow.
Shouldn't be any diff for a 1st gen unit.
Edit: From what I'm reading here you have an OEM firmware, custom ipsw will not ask you to active your unit. |

Found 6 micro-tiny pressure cracks on my unit this morning, ringer switch and power button. They will grow in time and thank GOD I bought Applecare.
Time to swap it within the next month for unit #11 baby! |

National Film Board of Canada App

This is a great app that gives you the option of downloading or watching documentaries and films live on your iphone. Dont expect transformers or any hollywood type film here.
By the way, its free to download and watch any of their films |
