Re: Firmware updates:

Whenever there's an update ... Apple releases for all 3 vers of the iPhone and iPod Touchs. Some features will be not available for certain devices, due to hardware specs.

Thats one thing I gotta give to Apple. Always updating and improving their FW, I have never seen a company so dedicated before. Even with devices that are consider old, they still treat it as new released hardware.

Thanks guys, and how are those devices working? Is Apple still providing updates for them after all this time? OS and/or patches?

The reason they are rarely around in Canada, is because they were never released in Canada. The 2G's were released in the US, and Canada started with the 3G's about a year later. Once it was unlockable, Canadians bought them until it was released here.

So I bought mine last summer, second hand to get my feet wet. It was $150, rediculously cheap since I was off a plan, didn't care for a data plan, and all I wanted was the wifi and cool apps. Score!

Free Push Notifications with Push Doctor on your Hackivated iPhone

If you are the owner of a hackivated iPhone today seems to be your lucky day as Push Doctor for push notifications has arrived via Cydia. Push Doctor supplies you with true activation certificates so unlike other workarounds, certificates are always unique.

Push Doctor is completely free and can be found on the NERV repository (http://www.cmdshft.ipwn.me/apt/) which you must add in Cydia. Keep in mind you will not see any application on your Springboard as all it will do is add certificates to your device. If you do give this a try remember to be patient as the server has been getting hammered all morning and push notifications may not work right away. So if you get any sort of error on install, simply try again at a later time.

Let us know how it’s working for you in the comments below!

BTW, since I installed this a couple days ago, I've been getting push notices just fine from Foursquare so far. It did no harm to my email and other apps, so this one is a WINNNER!

Felt like updating tonight and went w/ a Custom IPSW for 3.1.3 w/ Baseband Preserved @ 05.11.07

EDIT:

Back to 3.1.2, 3.1.3 has known battery issues and it's happening to me.

A)3GS w/ 3.1.3 out of the box can not be jailbroken for now.

B)Only way you can update any 3GS to 3.1.3 is from a Custom IPSW that's been jailbroken and baseband preserved.

C)If a 3GS was jailbroken and you've saved your ECID or stored your SHSH files to Cydia's Sever, you are free to roam around to any FW. Even if someone was stupidly updated to 3.1.3

Hope that helps the understanding of things

Firmware 3.1.3 Spoof

In the bigboss repo is 3.1.3 spoofer it tricks iTunes into thinking you upgraded your firmware. So you don't get asked to upgrade to 3.1.3 does not change any features. Working perfect for me.

From the author
Today I released a firmware spoofer called Firmware 3.1.3. This of course doesn’t really update you to firmware 3.1.3. But since firmware 3.1.2 and 3.1.3 are so identical minus the jailbreak, it is close enough. If you install this then reboot, iTunes will even show you as running 3.1.3 and will stop bugging you.

This is perfect for setting up someone else’s iPhone that may accidentally update to 3.1.3 because it prevents iTunes from hounding you or prompting you for an update.

This also allows all those iTunes 3.1.3 only apps to install and work. I believe there are no actual API changes between iTunes 3.1.2 and 3.1.3, therefore this*should*allow all 3.1.3 apps to run.

Note: This does not really update you to 3.1.3. Instead it just tricks your device into thinking you are updated by updating the file at /System/Library/CoreServices/SystemVersion.plist. In general, I think firmware spoofing is a bad idea. But this is a unique time where many users are accidentally updating and losing their jailbreak. Therefore, this package will help prevent that.

Only supported on 3.1.2 since 3.1.3 and 3.1.2 are virtually the same. If you want to spoof firmware other than 3.1.2, you can manually edit the file listed above (assuming you know how). But do not expect everything to work fine doing this. Some apps require the newer firmware.

Uninstall to revert to firmware 3.1.2.

Just reg SMS charges, just like when your reply to Facebook stuff via SMS.

The app got an update to support all of our carriers in Canada, before it was US only.
