Search warrant in Gizmodo iPhone case released to the public

Clifford Cretan, the judge who signed the search warrant in the Gizmodo iPhone case, issued a ruling on Friday that unsealed the contents of the highly controversial Jason Chen search warrant. Most of the details have already been discussed ad nauseum, but a few juciy tidbits have emerged:
- Apple, the company, not an individual employee nor any other entity, reported the missing phone.
- the case was filed, in part, as a trade secrets violation which partially explains why the search was handled by the REACT (Rapid Enforcement Allied Computer Team) crimes unit.
- Steve Jobs personally called Brian Lam to request the phone’s return. Lam agreed but with the condition that Apple provide a letter confirming the phone belonged to the Cupertino company.
- Brian Hogan, who reportedly found the iPhone at the bar and sold it to Gizmodo, is identified as a suspect.
- Jason Chen is being investigated for possible receipt of stolen property, theft and copying of a trade secret, and destruction of property worth more than $400.
- Hogan was turned in by his roommate, Katherine Martinson, who was afraid of being caught up in this legal mess after Hogan plugged the iPhone prototype into her computer.
- Prior to being searched by the police, Hogan and another roommate, Thomas Warner, hid Hogan’s computer, thumb drive, flash card, and the serial number stickers from the iPhone prototype. These items were found inside a local church, scattered amongst some bushes, and on the ground outside of a convenience store.
- Hogan reportedly claims that Gizmodo paid him $8500 for the phone with a bonus once it was officially unveiled as the new iPhone. Hogan is said to have shown off a box of money totaling $5000 to his roommate.
- No charges have been filed yet but they are expected in the near future. Presumably, Hogan is a focus but there is no word on whether Gizmodo or Chen will be included.
So there it is, folks, our taste of hollywood-style high tech gossip. Hope it keeps you entertained and informed as this lurid interesting story continues to unfold

Apple's New iPhone To Come With Improved Display, 512MB RAM, Bigger Battery

Fresh reports from Taiwanese publication DigiTimes notes that Foxconn, the manufacturer of the next generation iPhone has been contracted to ship close to 24 million units of fourth generation iPhone for 2010. Of these, 4.5 million units are expected to be shipped in the month of June alone.

According to DigiTimes analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, industry sources have provided several interesting details about the upcoming iPhone.

DigiTimes reports that Apple's new iPhone will come with new features that will aid in improved e-book reading capabilities. For instance, the iPhone 4G display will include an In-Plane Switching (IPS) technology that is presently available on the iPad. IPS will provide superior viewing angles on the iPhone's LCD display. Also, the display will be equipped with Fringe-Field Switching (FFS) technology, which will improve the visual quality of the display under sunlight as well as offer a much wider viewing angle.

DigiTimes also reportes several other enhancements in Apple's new iPhone. According to them, industry sources have confirmed earlier reports that iPhone 4G will include a 960x640 double resolution display. Also, the display panel is said to be 33% thinner over the panel on iPhone 3GS, which will consequently offer more space for the battery module inside the handset. The display screens are reported to be manufactured by LG Display and Prime View International.

The latest report however contradicts those published on a Vietnamese site last week where it was noted that the new iPhone will come with Apple's A4 processor and 256MB RAM. The DigiTimes report claims that the next generation iPhone will include an ARM Cortex A8 processor equipped with a 512MB RAM from Samsung.

Apple
is expected to unveil the next generation iPhone on June 7 at the WorldWide Developers Conference 2010 Keynote address and might also go on sale the same day. It will be interesting to see if these new features indeed make it to the fourth generation iPhone, which might be is also dubbed iPhone HD.

Okay, ladies and fellas. I’m going to guinea pig my beloved 3G.

Does anyone know an iPhone developer or someone that can get my UDID registered for the OS 4.0 beta? I have the latest firmware, unfortunately if your device isn’t registered through their Developer Program it bricks it. Ugh.

There’s methods floating around that involve decoding the IPSW and removing a line of code to stop it from validating your UDID but I don’t believe it and I’m not willing to risk it.

Anyone?

I get a kick out of it listening on a Saturday night mainly, but anytime always has something going on.

Things I heard in the last few weeks you won't hear about in the paper;
Public fornication
Shoplifting arrests
Fights
Domestic disturbances
Speeder charged with possession
drung dealer watches
Licence plate checks

I'm posting this out now because the G20 Summit is right around the corner, and it's going to be crazy.

Best of all: IT'S IN REAL-TIME !

I sh!t you not. I heard cops say the time they break for a donut, and it's right on or not more than 1 minute off.
