BBSettings: iOS 5 Notification Center Custom Widget Like SBSettings & Lots More

We’ve already seen a number of useful custom widgets for iOS 5 Notification Center such as Music Center, SpringPrefs, UISettings etc.
Manuel Gabele – developer of the unofficial Facebook widget - WeeFacebook sent us an email to tell us that he has developed a custom widget called BBSettings, which he says is like SBSettings but more powerful.
BBSettings custom widgets includes the following features:
•Featured Apps You can easiely configure which are your most used apps.
•Running Apps Shows you all current running apps.
•System Info Shows you various device informations (Disk/Memory usage; Hardware). Allows you to kill all running apps.
•Toggles Flashlight, Wi-Fi, Airplane, Bluetooth, Orientation Lock and Mute.
•Preferences Configure your most used Apps.
You can checkout the screenshots of some of these features below:
If you've jailbroken your iOS device on iOS 5 using Redsn0w or Sn0wbreeze, then you can check it out by installing the .deb package (from this link) on your iOS device via dpkg.
We haven't tried it out yet, but the ability to access these feature from any application by just swipping the status bar (via the Notification Center) in iOS 5 will be quite useful.
As always, please let us know what you think about this iOS 5 Notification Center custom widget in the comments.
Thanks Manuel for the heads up and keep up the good work.
App Developers Pulling Their Apps From US App Store Fearing Lawsuits

The legal tussle between App developers and patent trolls doesn't seem to end. The newest addition to the list of patent trolls is Kootol, an India based company, which has sent legal notices to a number of companies including App development firm Iconfactory - developer of Twitterrific - a popular Twitter app. Kotool software claims they infringe on a US patent for Twitter style real time feeds.
Even if App developers are not infringing on these patents, it is very difficult for them fight a case in court and pay fees for a lawyer. So unless a big company with loads of cash like Apple backs them up, they have no choice but to spit out the money, hungry patent trolls demand.
The good news till now for developers outside US is that these lawsuits have remained confined to the United States. As a precautionary measure to avoid any legal issues with firms like Lodsys, independent developers in Europe are pulling their apps from the US App Store as well as the Android Market.
Simon Maddox is one such developer who removed all his apps from the US App Store and Android Market. He doesn't loose out on much since most of his revenue comes from UK.
Shaun Austin, another UK based developer tweeted "selling software in the US has already reached the non-viable tipping point". Removing apps from the US store is only a temporary solution for European app developers, since it won't take long for these lawsuits to reach European shores. Kotool Software has already filed for the realtime feeds patent in Europe, Canada and India. |

To answer the question of "is the web moving towards HTML5 and phasing out Flash?"
If you haven't notice, the above banner from the Guvernment is now HTML5; just like every site on the web, everyone is dumbing flash in the trash

(Needed more space, hence the screenshot on my comp :p)

Good, call on that one. I just assume without checking the file type or URL. Horrible me :(
Wonder why Guv didn't go with a HTML 5 banner??? They do have the cash and the design firms to create this.
Google is now moving forward with all their projects to HTML5 and CSS |

Probably due to it being guaranteed to work across all devices and operating systems... especially until HTML5 is implemented 100% everywhere. |

Every restaurant and club site in the world still uses flash. I've been Traveling through Europe for the last three weeks and having flash on my phone has allowed me to get at a lot more information.
I wish people would move to html5 but it just doesn't make a lot of sense for a lot of businesses. |
