PwnageTool 4.1 To Jailbreak iOS 4.1 For iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G, iPod Touch 4G, iPod Touch 3G, Apple TV 2G & iOS 3.2.2 For iPad Released

iPhone Dev team has just released PwnageTool 4.1 for Mac OS X on the eve of Apple’s ‘Back to Mac’ event today.

PwnageTool will allow users who want to jailbreak and also unlock their iPhone to update their iPhone with a pre-jailbroken iOS 4.1 firmware while preserving the baseband so that it can be unlocked using Ultrasn0w.

iPhone Dev Team has provided the following information about PwnageTool 4.1:

Through a combination of the recently released geohot limera1n exploit , @comex’s recently released pf kernel exploit, and our original pwnage2 exploit, PwnageTool 4.1 works untethered on these devices at firmware 4.1:

AppleTV 2G
iPad (firmware 3.2.2)
iPod touch 4G
iPod touch 3G
iPhone4
iPhone 3GS
iPhone 3G

PwnageTool allows you to restore to a custom IPSW file. For instance, you can restore to a pre-jailbroken firmware while simultaneously maintaining your current baseband (and thus your ultrasn0w carrier unlock). You can also add whatever packages you want in the “Expert” mode of PwnageTool, if you wish to pre-install Cydia packages. iPhone 3G users get the additional benefit of selecting their own boot and recovery logos, and features like multitasking and battery charge percentage.

PwnageTool’s main advantage to ramdisk-based methods (limera1n, greenpois0n, redsn0w) is for unlockers — those that need to keep their current baseband and preserve their ultrasn0w unlock. But in this new age of both bootrom- and userland-based exploits, it’s an excellent platform for continuing the jailbreak through all future firmwares. More on this later! In the meantime, please enjoy this free software and please provide any usage feedback in our comment section below.

AppleTV 2G users: Welcome to the JB family! Right now, about all you can do is command-line stuff via ssh. You also have afc2 available, so you can use tools like ifunbox to move files around. These are the *very* early days of AppleTV 2G jailbreaking, so it’ll take some time for JB app developers to come up with methods to use your AppleTV 2G from the remote, versus the command line. PS: Your ssh password is “alpine”…please change it when you can :)

Expert mode: By popular demand, the IPSW file selection in Expert mode is now completely manual (doesn’t use Spotlight). Just pick your IPSW file directly instead of waiting for the Spotlight search to complete. In Expert mode, the default is to hacktivate (“Activate the iPhone”), so if you have a legit SIM card be sure to deselect that option in Expert mode.

DFU button: That “DFU” button in PwnageTool is more than it looks like. It guides you through the DFU process, but then also runs the appropriate exploit to convince your device and iTunes that all is legit. The DFU button in PwnageTool is not just your average DFU.

Windows users will have to wait for Sn0wbreeze, which is the Windows version of the PwnageTool. iH8sn0w, the developer has announced that he will release it shortly and also published some screenshots of the upcoming tool.

(Look for custom IPSWs hitting the web within the hour)

i have a question.... my friend is coming from Germany for christmas, she wants to buy my Fido 3Gs since its cheaper here... can she jailbreak it easily to work in germany? Should I go to the applestore and exchange (which i'll do anyways) and not activate in store so it stays unlocked?

Thanks for any tips.

It has to be jailbroken & unlocked by you, before it leaves Canada. It's a pain in the ass to rely on hackactivate & fix push notifications.

AppleStore will not unlock any iPhones that's been brought in, getting it swapped won't help since they know your 3GS is locked to Fido.

All iPhones are tagged and lock to carriers if they are subsidized.

New MacBook Air looks nice. Expensive toy for playing around with iMovie, that's the only reason I want an Apple computer now. Which is not valid ...

It's gonna be the new MacBook Air or iPad 2, if the iPad 2 has retina display ... I'll get that instead.

EA acquires Chillingo for $20mm; Angry Birds now angrier than ever

Electronic Arts confirmed today that it will acquire Angry Birds publisher Chillingo in a deal rumored to be worth just under $20 million. Unfortunately the birds aren’t likely to see much of that cash, as Rovio, the developer behind the wildly popular mobile game, is not a part of the acquisition. In fact, Rovio has since told TechCrunch that it will not be using Chillingo anymore — news that EA is likely not too happy about. Chillingo has published several popular mobile games including Angry Birds and Cut the Rope, developed by ZeptoLab. Angry Birds and Cut the Rope are currently ranked No. 1 and 3 respectively on Apple’s paid app charts. The deal comes on the heels of the company’s $400 million acquisition of Japanese mobile game developer Ngmoco. Clearly, EA has no plans of slowing its attack on the mobile gaming space.

That's what the Rogers rep meant yesterday...I called to see if I was eligible for the HUP iPhone 4 upgrade. I got the 16 as there were no 32s available and he said go into the store STRAIGHT away. Good thing I did...

Keyboard is a pain in my ass but I will get used to it, will have to learn to type sideways w the larger screen. Wooooo.

You have such tiny fingers, portrait mode will be fine for you. Just stop being you paranoid and OS will learn your habits. Also just type the entire sentence out and then edit it if you need to.

Every Blackberry users I've known, freak out about this and bash the screen super hard to type. Just need to relax, learn how to type and within 3 months you'll see you're typing 3x faster on the IP4

This friend of mine just got an iP4 from Bell..

The ing guy barely just learned how to text, can't operate his own comp worth a crap, and just got a damn iPhone...

I told him it's like a 16 year old getting his license and buying a damn Ferrari...

The guy keeps screwing it up and calls me looking for guidance. When I try and talk him through it, he hasn't got a clue what the hell I'm talking about...

He didn't even have an email address before this phone (I had to set one up for him)....

I'm trying to convince him to sell it cause it's too much gear for him but now he's contracted to a data plan...

I am pulling my hair out...

anyway...sorry for venting...

Welcome to my world :(

Regardless if it's the web; over the phone, by sms and in person ... it seems like i always have to help or do something for someone.

Facebook: Many ppl I haven't spoken to for almost 15 yrs and the first thing they ask me, the annoying IP4 stuff & jailbreaking.

At work; I got this lazy ass coworker asking me 1000 things a day about the iPhone , I keep telling him to google it and learn it for himself. Why should I spend hours learning things and you expect me to tell you everything on demand? This one time, he took a huge fit: "why should I google it?!!! why should I google it?!!! why should I google it?!!! Why can't you just tell me???!!!"

Honestly, I'm like "IT" guy in my family, but recently been really feed up and snapped on everyone & refuse to help anyone. There's only so much use and abuse a family member can take.

My niece loves Justin Bieber, she also loves to collect viruses on her computer. The only time she calls me, is when she needs me to fix her computer.

I've set this ringtone for her, when she calls ... start @ 0;55 mark

(My buddy's little brother made this video)

I love helping everyone here on TOTA; but sometimes you guys ask some really retarded questions, which is not needed.
