This has nothing to do with jailbreaking, moding and etc @ all. When you update any FW from a previous backup / username, like i said before ... "it leaves traces of the previous system files and sometimes it causes a lot problems down the road" It's the first rule I learned by in the Palm Treo days and always walked away problem free.
Even if you're updating from legit to legit FW vers, it will cause a problem. This is the main reason why the AppleStore is flooded with all these ppl who somehow have a messed up iPhone, even restoring it 10x over and over again. When I'm talking about messed up, I know of 3 cases of ppl having their iPhone 3G FW 3.1.1 auto dailing to random numbers on their contact list, 2 were legit and other one jailbroken.
The Apple guys @ the GBar will restore it on the spot and ask you to test it out for a while, if the problem happens again ... in for a warrenty swap.
Imagine you didn't start fresh on your IP4 and synce'd in your previous backup / restore?

Sad news to tell you, 1st Botroom can be jailbroken w/ the newest pwnagetool that was released a few hrs ago.

2nd bootrom no can do ... sorry. Thanks GeoHomo, your ego still lives on after 4.0 and the suffering continues.
Let's hope all the jailbreakers team up and release their tools at the same time & push it later in the year, when majority of the world has the IP4. |

A) *you can skip this part if you dont use your notes*
SSH into your unit and backup your notes, since your on iOS4 the new extension is .sqlite
/private/var/mobile/Library/Notes
(I just went through hell ... manually ghetto-backup my notes, since OS1-3 used note.db and iOS4 uses notes.sqlite)
To place them back in aster a restore, you have to be jailbroken.
Legit wise, I noticed Yahoo mail app now sync's notes, never tried it yet and maybe I will after tonight's visit to hell (for future FW vers such as iOS5)
B) Just restore or update, let the unit do it's thing and right after activation, it will ask you "restore as new username or previous username" Pick a new username and everything syncs all nice and fresh.
C) iTunes > Edit > Pref > Devices >
This will show all your devices that has been synced in the past, you can keep them or delete them. I personally delete them and have no use for them. If you want to keep them just to be safe, just make sure the previous username has only been synced with one FW, example strictly 3.1.3 w/o a mixture of any other FW.
Pls do this in the future w/ whatever you route you decide take, legit or jailbroken. I promise you will be problem free 100% from messed up system files causing conflicts with each other.

To jailbreak iOS4, use "redsn0w_win_0.9.5b5-2" w/ iOS4 GM to patch it.
3GS: (1st bootrom) :(
Find a trusted source that has compiled a custom IPSW of iOS4 Final. |

Update: For all you multitasking ppl
Bejewelled 2 & flight control has updated with new API, multasking working as save state.
Update on my iOS4 speed up testing:
Amazingly happy! Slide to unlock respring animation is just as smooth as 3.0. I even tested with my GF's 3.1.2 unit side by side and it's the same speed. Of course mine is faster if the app is preloaded in the multitasking dock. Just as Jer said, keep your multitasking to a min. w/ 3rd party apps. OEM wise, load as many as you like at the sametime.
The 3G lives on!!!! Thanks to that gradient and shadow strip down method. |

They've released a BETA Ultrasn0w that can jb/unlock both 3G & 3GS.
I've used it successfully to jb + unlock my phone |
