Phone Gods: I need your assistance!
I'm getting a new phone--it's either going to be an iPhone or a blackberry (I suppose the latest model, whichever that is.)
I'm totally clueless when it comes to phones. All I'm really looking for is quick and easy e-mail access--I also text a lot. Besides that, though, I could not care less about instant messaging or browsing the web, or anything of the sort. As such, I don't want to pay unnecessary fees towards services I will never use.
Also, I'm with Rogers, so if there is anything going on that I can take advantage of at this time I'd appreciate the info. |
email + text = blackberry
why do you think all the big corporations give their employees blackberry and not iphone? blackberry is a real phone. :) |

I have an iPhone... and I agree with Chinamon
iPhones are superior for web browsing, apps, and 'fun stuff'
but if you are just looking to text and email get a blackberry... Writing an email on a touchscreen keyboard is something I still cant get use to. |

I have to disagree with this one here.
At first I felt the same way, having an on screen keyboard typing wouldn't be so great & I needed my treo. As time went on, I really got us to the iPhone and the treo stayed in the car as my gps running TomTom & Garmin.
Now when I go back to the treo, I don't like pyshical keyboards anymore; I actually wasting so my efforts hitting the keys so hard and etc. With the iPhone now, I'm hitting the keys super light & no joke at all, I'm typing super fast & effortless. The predictive spelling really does learn your typing and I have to says it's 99.9% correct. Once turn by turn navigation come on board with the iPhone, I hope it's tomtom ... Since I have made such a huge database for red light cameras and speed traps. I will be saying fairwell to beloved Treo for good. |

I agree with you 100%.
When I first got the iPhone it took me forever to even write a text message. I was so friggin slow. Now that I've been using it for awhile, I can go though an email or text message twice as fast as I could with my old phones button keypad. The predictive spelling just like you said, 99% of the time is the correct word and I can just fly past and keep typing. It's very fast but only once you get used to it. Just a light touch on the screen and the letter is placed, so sliding around to the letters makes it so fast and easy to type, and even if you screw up it's almost always the correct word that it replaces for you, so you can just keep typing. |

iPhone OS 3.0 beta 2 gets the jailbreak treatment

The jailbreakers have managed to keep their speed record intact. Just one day after Apple releases an update to the iPhone OS 3.0 beta, QuickPwn updates its wares to support the new firmware. According to the related writeup, it should work with all iPhone / iPod touch models. After going through the jailbreaking process, you'll need to open icy and follow a few more steps to finish the job. As usual, download at your own risk, and for now, crack is for Windows users only.
Update: The Dev Team has chimed in with the usual list of caveats and warnings. If nothing else, you've now got tacit verification that this release of QuickPwn isn't some malicious hack.
Dev Team: Imitation is Flattering but Might Kill Unlock
Hackers vs. hackers. FreeHacks vs. AdHacks vs. PaidHacks. Jeremy covered the state of iPhone piracy yesterday, and while the argument over apps rages, the Jailbreak and potential unlock sitch could become just as confusing. Witness the Dev Team’s Cat. Bag. Mouse. post which warns against using “unofficial” (according to the Dev Team) versions of, er, the unofficial (according to Apple) iPhone jailbreaking QuickPwn:
THE MOST IMPORTANT THING ABOUT THE UNOFFICIAL QUICKPWN RELEASES IS THAT IF YOU USE THEM, YOU WILL KILL YELLOWSN0W, POSSIBLY FOREVER. That’s because QuickPwn, by its very nature, requires you to already have accepted Apple’s official IPSW, along with its baseband update. If you do that, you will (possibly forever) lose your ability to software-unlock your iPhone 3G.
As to what the Dev Team itself is up to… check out the rest of their post. |

MobiHand launches BlackBerry app store; can it compete?

Well folks, things just got interesting. A day ahead of the presumed April 1st App World announcement from RIM, a third-party mobile software distributor is making an effort to steal some of RIM’s limelight. Brilliantly timed, MobiHand’s app store announcement this morning will surely garner some attention and truth be told, it’s probably the better product out of the gate. MobilHand’s app store beta comes packing over 5,000 free and paid software titles already in its library, no ridiculous pricing requirements and a UI that is clean and simple. There are also a few nice features similar products don’t tout, such as a “Deal-of-the-Day” that offers a big discount on one new top-selling app each day. RIM’s saving grace of course, is that it is much better positioned to get App World in front of the eyes of BlackBerry users. While MobiHand is one of the more successful third-party app distributors in the game, it still doesn’t have anywhere near RIM’s reach. We also doubt MobiHand will be putting the marketing and ad dollars behind its app store to really make a dent, but you never know. Either way, tomorrow we should be getting a full taste of what RIM has in store but in the meantime hit the jump for a few more screen shots and hit mobihand.com/appstore from the browser on your ‘Berry to get rolling.
