Court Grants Sony's Temporary Restraining Order Against Geohot

The United States District Court of California has granted Sony's request for a Temporary Restraining Order and Order of Impoundment against Geohot over the PS3 jailbreak.
Having considered all the papers and arguments, the Court finds that SCEA has shown a likelihood of success on the merits of its claims for violation of the DMCA and CFAA, and that it will suffer irreparable harm unless Defeendant Hotz's violations are enjoined. The Court also finds that a Temporary Restraining Order and Order of Impoundment are necessary to prevent immediate and irreparable injury to SCEA before the hearing on the Order to Show Cause regarding the preliminary injunction can take place, and to preserve the status quo. The Court further finds that the balance of equity and interests of justice support granting such relief.
The Electronic Frontier Foundation recently addressed the matter. "That [Sony] can silence speech that reveals security flaws using the DMCA and that the mere fact of a terms of use somewhere gives a company permanent and total control over what you do with a device under pain of criminal punishment — are both sweeping and frightening". Its more than a little concerning that the United States Court is upholding Sony's actions.

If you've been following along what's been going on since everything has been made public about Geohomo's history, you will understand why I want Sony to f*ck him up.
Read about it on the first page homeboy, I've made a little section to educate everyone. |

Im quite aware of the jersey shore drama that happened a few months back. That doesnt take away from the BS that Sony is pulling. |

| Say... the other thread got me thinking... Is tethering extra on Rogers' 6GB/$30mo data option? |

No, you do have to call in to get them to enable it with your account. Ppl tested the mobile hotspot in 4.3 w/ Rogers and AT&T and it works.
Feel sorry for Verizon's tethering / mobile hotspot fees though. |

My question is...how can they tell? If someone jailbreaks and uses MyWi couldnt they get around the charges? |

Nope, when I was in Van last Dec I used tethering the whole time to work during the week from the hotel. It's the only time I saw my usage get anywhere close to the 6GB (still only 3 max). |

Technically yes, they can tell if you're on MyWi, data transers while tethering uses 3x more bandwidth in a single load.
If everyone did the MyWi method they will be charging or deactive that type of usage.
Remember, not everyone is willing to jailbreak anymore. The latest iOS ver covers 90% of the limitations we had with the iPhones.
Also, taking the jailbreak and unlock route seems to be holding the users back 1-2 previous vers of the iOS and to me it's not worth it. |

After several persistent phone calls, i managed to convince someone to officially unlock my device from Fido through the Apple servers.
95% of the time theymade the same excuse up that i was on contract still. No matter how much i explained to them that I boght my 3gs outright and it has nothing to do with my contract, they said they couldnt, but this time, it worked.
Although it was 50 bucks, i have the freedom of updating and keeping my unlock when i travel. And i travel quite a bit. |

Oh good. I plugged my phone cable to my work laptop a couple months ago, and had it working for a few minutes while Rogers was working on the podium by the street (no cable internet). I don't recall a charge on my bill tho, but was wondering about it in case the need happened again.
Regarding usage since I went up from 512MB to 6GB a month... I have been using 1GB a month on average. Waze gps uses up a lot of data, and it's great to not care. |
