Microsoft to Purchase Nokia for $19 Billion?

Industry insider Eldar Murtazin says Microsoft has decided that they would spend $19 billion to acquire Nokia.
One small software company decided last week that they could spent 19 bln USD to buy a part of small phone vendor. Thats it.
Murtazin correctly predicted that Nokia would adopt Windows Phone 7 as the operating system for its smartphones; however, Nokia claims these rumors are not true.
"These rumors are 100 percent baseless," Nokia spokesman Doug Dawson told Reuters.
Nokia's statement references the BGR article which claims that Nokia and Microsoft struck a deal. This seems to be a misinterpretation of the tweet which merely states that Microsoft is willing to spend $19 billion.
Murtazin argues that if his report is so baseless than why is Nokia so upset...
Why Nokia stuff so angry about me today? If my facts baseless, then why you so angry? I think that you want better price, yeah? :)
Nokia now worth three months of Apple cash

Here’s the latest for NOK from Google Finance. See Nokia’s current market valuation? It’s barely hovering at $25.54 billion. This means Wall Street is now valuing the #1 handset maker in the world at about the same as Apple’s last quarterly revenue of $24.67 billion. Apple’s market valuation? $321.81 billion. Another way of looking at it?_Nokia’s phone business could be also worth less than Skype.
Nokia yesterday_issued profit warning, telling investors to brace for impact. Stephen Elop, the CEO, told investors on a conference call that_“Android is gaining strength”, adding_“Apple is Apple, of course”.__ as Apple and Android cut into its sales on the high-end and cheap Chinese phones ate its lunch on the low-end. Shares immediately stumble 18 percent, a thirteen-year low for the company, erasing nearly four billion euros in market value. An increasing number of investors are now worried that by the time Stephen Elop pulls its magic tricks with Windows Phone, Nokia might surrender so much market share that it would never recover. Look no further than the latest numbers…
Even though Nokia is still the leading phone maker in the world, its market share has been evaporating at a rapid pace – especially in smartphones. According to IDC, Nokia went from a 38.8 smartphone market share in the first quarter of 2010 to 24.3 percent a year later, while Apple’s share grew from 15.7 percent to 18.7 percent in the same period. Nokia sold 24.2 million smartphone units versus 18.7 million iPhones, making Apple the second-best smartphone vendor globally. |

iOS5 is gonna need the A5 CPU to run properly and smoothly. 3GS will not be supported and the IP4 is gonna run it very choppy on it. |

I have it on pretty good authority that just over half the whole iOS codebase is in the process of being re-written, so I don't think it'll be as bad as previously thought.. I'm cautiously optimistic! |

More malware in the Android Market: Google removes 26 deleterious app doppelgangers

Ideally, we'd do our smartphone software shopping free from the specter of malicious apps masquerading as useful ones. This past weekend, however, 26 apps in the Android Market were discovered to be packing pernicious code called Droid Dream Light. Apparently, the dastardly devs who made the malware took existing apps and modified them to send details (including IMEI and IMSI info) about the infected handset to a remote server upon receiving a call. The code can also download and cue new package installations, but it needs user approval to do so. Google promptly pulled the offending apps, but their appearance serves as another reminder to be careful when downloading software on your smartphone -- prudence demands minding your app permissions, lest your little green bot start stealing your personal info. |

iPhone 4S or 5, whatever they choose to call it. Will be out in September?!
It's sad what happened to Nokia, that might happen to RIM if they aren't careful. |

Kid sells one of his kidneys so he can buy an iPad 2

From the WTF dept:
The Shanghai Daily is reporting that a 17-year old sold a kidney so he could buy an iPad 2.
“I wanted to buy an iPad 2 but could not afford it,” said the boy surnamed Zheng in Huaishan City. “A broker contacted me on the Internet and said he could help me sell one kidney for 20,000 yuan.”
On April 28th, the boy went to Chenzhou City in neighboring Hunan Province for the kidney removal surgery arranged by the broker. He was paid 22,000 yuan (an extra 2,000–) or $3,400 after his right kidney was taken out at Chenzhou’s famous No. 198 Hospital.
His mom later found out (probably because he was rocking a new white iPad 2 and a huge scar) and called the police.
The hospital claimed they had no idea about Zheng’s surgery because the department that did the surgery had been contracted to a Fujian businessman.
Suddenly, waiting in line overnight doesn’t seem so insane anymore.
"A 17-year-old student in Anhui Province sold one of his kidneys for 20,000 yuan only to buy an iPad 2. Now, with his health getting worse, the boy is feeling regret but it is too late, the Global Times reported today.
"I wanted to buy an iPad 2 but could not afford it," said the boy surnamed Zheng in Huaishan City. "A broker contacted me on the Internet and said he could help me sell one kidney for 20,000 yuan."
On April 28 Zheng went to Chenzhou City in neighboring Hunan Province for the kidney removal surgery arranged by the broker. His parents knew nothing about it, Zheng said. He was paid 22,000 yuan after his right kidney was taken out at the Chenzhou No. 198 Hospital.
When he returned home, his mother found out and reported to the police immediately. But they could not locate the broker whose cell phone was always powered off, the report said.
It turned out that the Chenzhou No. 198 Hospital was not qualified to perform organ transplant. The hospital claimed they had no idea about Zheng's surgery because the department that did the surgery had been contracted to a Fujian businessman.
The case is still under investigation, the report said."
(That gets the big WTF from me) |

What a shame about Nokia. I had three of their phones and loved each one...
Too bad they couldn't keep up...
And they were so HUGE in Europe... |

Adobe CEO says Flash feud with Apple is finished

Speaking during the D9 conference in California on Thursday, Adobe’s CEO, Shantanu Narayen said that his company’s feud with Apple, which was a result of Cupertino’s decision to omit support for Flash in its products, has come to an end. “Yes, the argument is over from our point of view,” Narayen said. “We are so excited about opportunities we have. We’re focused on that.” He added that Adobe welcomes, and is contributing to, the new HTML5 standard. Apple’s argument, which has been backed by many developers, is that HTML5 is more efficient than Flash — particularly when it comes to battery consumption — for presenting and viewing streaming video and other multimedia content. “At the end of the day, where Adobe makes its money is through our application tools, as well as our solutions, (and) being able to make that content and measure that content and manage that content,” Narayen told The Wall Street Journal.
Apple camera patent could stop smartphone bootleggers in their tracks

Apple is always filing patents for strange and fantastic things that never seem to find their way into actual products. But an application published today details some interesting tech that we could actually see getting jammed into a future iPhone (for better or worse). By pairing an infrared sensor with the camera already on board, portable devices could receive data from transmitters placed, well, wherever. Beyond simply blasting out text and opening links like a glorified QR code, transmitters could disable certain features, such as the camera, to prevent recording at movie theaters and music venues. If completely shutting off the cam seems a bit heavy-handed, watermarks can also be applied to photos identifying businesses or copyrighted content. Some potential uses are a little less Big Brother, like museums beaming information about exhibits to a user's or launching an audio tour. Obviously third parties would have to get behind the IR push and there's no guarantee that Apple will put this in a future iProduct. Still, we're a little worried that the days of blurry YouTube concert videos may be coming to an end.
iCloud will be free at first and then $25/year – LA Times

The LATimes reports that iCloud will be a low-priced add on to iTunes costing users just $25/year, perhaps as an add on to MobileMe?
Dubbed iCloud, the service initially will be offered for a free period to people who buy music from Apple’s iTunes digital download store, allowing users to upload their music to Apple’s computers where they can then play from a Web browser or Internet-connected Apple device.
The company plans to eventually charge a subscription fee, about $25 a year, for the service. Apple would also sell advertising around its iCloud service.
Earlier CNet reported that Apple had sewn up the last major record label, Universal, to sell its products in the iCloud. The deal had reportedly been finalized late last week (plenty of time!). |

A Honda driver smashes his car into the window of Apple’s Greensboro retail spot in what’s being described as a robbery attempt. Obviously panicking after seeing the results of his reckless actions, he fled the scene without stealing anything. Check out a mid-air suspended MacBook Air tilted behind the display window. The store will be closed all day Friday._MyFox8 has the story:
Police described the suspect as a white male wearing a white shirt and hooded mask. According to 107.5 KZL, a security guard said the suspect was wearing a white ninja suit. Police said the car involved in the accident was reported stolen around 6 a.m. There was only one person inside the vehicle . |
